The Larry Johnson saga is over.

The star running back Johnson has agreed in principle to a new six-year deal with Kansas City, and is expected to arrive at Arrowhead Stadium on Tuesday to rejoin his team, FOXSports.com has learned.
While holding out, Johnson spent training camp working out at Athletes Performance Institute in Tempe, Arizona rather than two-a-days in River Falls, Wisconsin with his teammates.

Financial terms of the deal were not yet available, but it is expected that Johnson will be one of the three highest paid running backs in the NFL, along with LaDainian Tomlinson and Shaun Alexander.

Wonder what the over/under is on the number of remaining carries he has for the chiefs?

(not trying to be pessimistic...just realizing the odds are against him looking back at Jamal Anderson, Erik Dickerson, etc. and how they were never the same after their record-breaking carries year)

I think Carl and LJ had a deal to keep this going long enough to avoid camp - a reward for his excellent past 2 seasons.

That's three years as a stud at least, and then the remainder of the contract he could still be a part of a killer RB tandem or a mentor to a young stud.

Last Year it was Roaf retiring..and people are still bitching about that...then Trent goes down...people bitched about the illegal hit...then Huard saves the season...PEOPLE REJOICE...then Green comes back...PEOPLE BITCH...QB controversy ensues...more bitching...Bandwagoneers hop off and on all season long...then the Chiefs end up in the playoffs..MIRACULOUSLY..and the bandwagoneers jump back on board....only to lose it when the Colts dismantle the Chiefs once again...that was 2006/2007

Fast Forward to this year....Green leaves for Miami...Huard and Croyle QB controversy...Johnson held out through training camp...Will Shields retires...Priest Holmes says hes back..and not ready..but wants to play..but not sure when....and we arent even at the 3rd preseason game yet...Jared Allen..two regular game suspension...bunch of new younger players...the bandwagoneers are hopping on once again...ready to jump off at a moments notice screaming blasphemy to Peterson and ready to blame everyone iin the front office....

As if anyone didn't already know this wasn't going to play out like this exactly?

Let's see- Carl likes LJ and was going to pay him. The Chiefs gave him absurd carries and didn't need him in camp to take snaps sans a few in the last preseason game and w/ enough time to get back into football shape. Carl pulls in his marker on Priest to show up to camp for leverage and the guy never gets off the PUP list... which doesn't jeopardize any medical coverage he could get from retiring and/or disability.

This went down exactly as was to be expected to the tee. I knew as well as many here did, this was exactly how it was going to play out- which is why I was wondering why fans around here or rival fans even discussed the hold out as if it was a big deal.

I know this could catch me some flak because of how popular around here it is to bash Carl, but I think he played this well. To not even have to pay LJ $20 million after some of the free agent signings this year? That's pretty good for the organization. I think he deserves some credit for this one.

After winning in the Trent/MIA showdown, getting LJ to re-sign for under $20 mil in guaranteed money, getting value out of Ryan Sims and Lawrence Tynes, I would say Carl has put together a very respectable offseason.

Now just get us 2 MVP DTs, a LT, a RT, another WR, some replacement CBs, and we'll be on our way the Super Bowl!! Dammit Carl!! :cuss:

The Larry Johnson saga is over.

The star running back Johnson has agreed in principle to a new six-year, $45 million deal with Kansas City, FOXSports.com has learned. The contract includes $19 million in guaranteed money.

Johnson joined his Chiefs teammates for practice Tuesday, The Associated Press reported. He was in uniform, taking a swing pass from quarterback Brodie Croyle.

Chiefs spokesman Bob Moore said Johnson will speak to the media Wednesday.

While his teammates were holding two-a-days in River Falls, Wisconin, Johnson spent training camp working out at Athletes Performance Institute in Tempe, Arizona.

So... assuming it really is six years for 45 mil and 19 mil guaranteed.. this means...

19 million signing bonus, divided over 6 years = 3.16 mil cap hit per year.

26 mil in salaries over 6 years = average of 4.3 mil per year.

(This basic calculation is correct, right?)

I would think the salaries on the front-end of the contract will be very cap friendly.

Of course, there are probably alot of escalator clauses, I suppose.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Running back Larry Johnson agreed to a six-year contract extension and joined the Kansas City Chiefs for practice Tuesday, after having been absent from training camp since it opened July 27.

"It was a long, hard negotiation," general manager Carl Peterson said. "We are very happy to have all our children in camp now."

Johnson was in uniform, taking a swing pass from quarterback Brodie Croyle.

Chiefs spokesman Bob Moore said Johnson will speak to the media Wednesday.

Johnson has broken the Chiefs' single-season rushing record in each of the past two seasons. He ran for 1,789 yards last year and set an NFL record with 416 carries.

During his holdout, the team fined him more than $19,000 per day.

That's exactly what we should've done. Nobody thinks he's gonna be the same RB in 5 years anyway, we have cap room, we probably should front load the thing so if he wears down or gets hurt we aren't on the hook for a ton of money.

The market is out of control. Nate Clements got something like $80 million, 22 million in guaranteed money. There was no way LJ should've gotten less than that. Dwight Freeney got that kind of money too, etc. LJ is every bit as good as those guys, he's one of the most dominant players in the NFL, based on what he's done, he's probably worth 80 million, 25-30 in guaranteed money. I'd have to look again but I'm pretty sure Tomlinson got $60 million/18 guaranteed, and that was three years ago.... and that's about what we got LJ for. Total steal.

Is the sixth year an option year? Is this why it is being reported as a 5 year deal on ESPN and 6 year deal on FOX?
I think the confusion is that LJ is still under contract for 1 year and the deal is 5 years onto the end of that contract. So, technically, the actual deal is a 5 year extension. But at the end of the day, he's here for 6 more.

how is that great?

the up front money is huge as well (from early reports) he's getting a huge chunk of it in the first 3 years.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the total guaranteed money is $19 million, and that the six-year deal has a total value of $45 million.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network has the contract at $19 million guaranteed, $43.2 million total value, and $27.7 million over the first three years.

UPDATE: Agent Alvin Keels tells us that the value of the five-year extension is $43.2 million, and that the total six-year value (including the old money) is $45 million.

:cuss:

LJ's shown a lot of maturity by keeping quiet, and patient. He wasn't in the media crying about being disrespected... came in in shape and ready to roll... and couldn't wait to get on the field and join the team.

A couple people I work with said they wish we'd told him to take a hike. :shake: Those people piss me off.

Yeah, he was real professional about it. Rep for him on that.

I could see maybe trading him before the draft, if we had thought we were a few years away, and the strategy was to sell high. I would have had a hard time doing it, but if the price was right I would have taken a look.

What a F***ing Troll

Comes in and stirs a pot and doesn't come back to answer any comments about his own teams shortcomings. :shake:

The Faiders actually have a better record than the Chiefs but YET they still are on the bottom of the power rankings UNDER the Chiefs??

Why would that be Autumn Douche?

Can we all finally agree it's all about the QB and NOT the RB?

Because we weren't talking about the Raiders. Whatever is in the water there in MO keeps you guys from having a normal discussion about your underachieving, average overpaid running back and you have to side step to a crappy team to make yourself feel better. Whatever it takes. I know the Raiders suck and have been in dissaray for years but Diaper Boy is still horrible.

The Bronco's have known this for a long fucking time. Think we could figure it out?

Hard to talk smack when your backs aren't exactly dominant, you trolling raider trash. Let's see. Fargas leads your team with 749 yards, and let's not forget about that first round draft pick Darren McFailure. He has a whopping 451 yards. LJ has 748 yards and he sat out four games. Thanks for playing. Come back when you have something to thump your chest about.
