I wonder if Mangino has trouble with players not respecting him?

I'd have trouble taking somebody seriously as a football coach who's that grossly obese... maybe it's just me, but I'd be bothered by that....

You can't tell by that angle, but I saw this on the news the other night and he was actually bleeding from the left side of his mouth...

BLEEDING, NOT FROTHING: That wasn't tobacco juice flowing out of the corner of Mark Mangino's mouth as he angrily chewed out a player on the sidelines Saturday night. It was blood.

The Kansas coach explained that he accidentally hit a sore on his chin and it began to bleed. He was lashing into Raimond Pendleton, who had drawn a 15-yard penalty for diving into the end zone after returning a punt 77 yards for a touchdown.

"I took the head set off and bumped the cut early in the game," Mangino said. Then when he began chewing out the player, his head set hit the sore again.

"Raimond understands what we're trying to do, how we're trying to conduct ourselves after a score," Mangino said. "But no, it's a cut I've had on my chin since Thursday morning. I still can't get it stopped. I might have to see a doctor."

I do not agree with Mangino's tactics in relaying information to his players.

BUT, I bet that kid doesn't show off ever again.

Now thats what the Chiefs need.

Every player should deserve an earful like that everytime they screw up.

that's not how you communicate when you are a leader, people love to see the coaches berate the players when they screw up, what they forget is they are supposed to be making them better at football

Exactly. It's a funny joke when they're winning a BCS bowl and making their run...now it's the reason he's a "bad coach."

True.

But I just feel in the Chiefs case, they always screw up, and make the same mistakes over and over, so the learning curve of the players is in question. And some of the mistakes are boneheaded and frustratiing. That's where you just come to wonder if what you're preaching to your players is going in sink or not? Or if your players are simply idiots? And if they are, then I think an earful is well deserving.

I would think it would be hard to respect someone who demands strict discipline from his players, while exercising none himself. Not just in terms of his weight, in terms of his temper as well.

He's a big, round, walking hypocrisy

Whoever the guy that put this together had perfect timing on the whole deal. People say Haley has anger issues, but this guy is insane. Personally I want him to stick around for the benefit of the other Big 12 teams. Dude is a comedy gem. Please Lew don't take away the fat man. The KU football program will look credible if they replace him with someone height-weight proportional.
