I received a call at the office around 5:30 or so. The beautiful and witty Mrs. FAX discovered a significant amount of blood in her urine. After 3 deliriously happy hours at a walk-in clinic (because our doctor's office was closed), we're counseled by a puzzled doctor (English-challenged, by the way) who really didn't have a solid diagnosis. Then, it was off to the pharmacy to fill a prescription for antibiotics.

She seems okay, in bed and fairly comfortable. I made her a simple dinner, gave her the medication, and am checking on her every 20 minutes or so. Tomorrow, we'll call our doctor, get her over to him, and find out what's really going on.

This came on very suddenly and, frankly, I'm a little worried. It was the amount of blood and the extremely sudden onset that had the clinic doctor concerned and confused. She had one of her kidneys removed when she was 5 years old, so anything of this nature is troubling.

I believe in the power of prayer so, if you're so inclined, a kind thought sent her way by you guys would be appreciated. She is everything to me.

Please forgive me in advance. But is it time for her change? Just asking. If so; that'd be my guess. Simple womanly nature.
Regardless, I'm not a doctor and you two both will be in my prayers.

You and Mrs. FAX have my prayers.

My suggestion to you is to pay for a good Dr. They are typically worth it.

Best of luck Mr. FAX

Nope. It's not that, Mr. Simply Red. It's blood in the urine with lots of pain. Normally, these symptoms would indicate a typical female urinary tract infection. But those usually come on much more gradually and the amount of blood is much less.

As I said, I wouldn't be overly concerned if she had both kidneys or there wasn't so much blood.

Typically, I would avoid posting something like this. It seems selfish and trite in a way. But, in this case, I'm puttin' the internet to work for the cause of good.

Yeah, I thought about that after I typed it. I think it is fairly minor based on today's prevents. Again, Regardless; as a fellow believer, I'll say a prayer tonight.

cat scan of her abdomen would rule out a stone (or in) real quick, just go. She can get the drugs she needs for pain, and get the stone treated that much quicker. give her a lortab or two while you're at it.

Although it's certainly possible, I don't think it's a stone, Mr. bringbackmarty. Could be, but I doubt it. Her diet is practically vegan. I'm thinking a cyst, maybe.

Still waiting on our doctor to call back. He's probably ordered the shellfish.

Definitely. Ergo, the $130 for 10 antibiotic tablets. There's an infection, no doubt. The cause is the issue. Normally, a urinary tract infection will cause you to pass some blood, but this is a lot. Much more than one would typically expect. Add that fact and the one kidney issue and you've got one worried, pissed-off guy.

Just spoke with her doctor. He says to bring her into his office first thing in the AM. However, if the pain increases, I am to take her to the hospital and have him paged. So, we watch and wait.

Thanks for all the advice and kind thoughts and words, guys. I have a theory about the universe and the power of thought. Maybe, when we get some time, I'll make about 40 posts on the subject. Meanwhile, thanks again.

Money isn't the object. But, it was a little strange when I picked up the prescription ... the pharmacist actually asked me if I knew how much it was going to be before he rang it up.

It was for something called Levaquin. 10 500mg tabs ... $128 bucks.

I hate big pill.

levaquin is good shit. one of the new generation of antibiotics. it can cure siphilus in elephants, lung infections in blue whales, hell it can even fix our offense......Well actualy it can't do that, but it could fix a siphilus infected, bronchitis suffering blue whale\elephant creature good enough to play left tackle, and that would fix our offense.

Several Planeteers have requested an update, so here it is ...

First of all, you guys are great. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I hesitate to post something of this nature, but I was worried as hell and one never knows how the Ethers might respond to positive thoughts. Believe me when I say that I greatly appreciate the many kind words.

Went to her doctor this morning. CT was negative - no stones. That's a good thing. Unfortunately, she is presenting symptoms that are unlike a typical urinary tract infection. That's a bad thing. Nevertheless, she's back home, resting, and taking the antibiotics so we'll wait and see how things progress over the next day or so. No hospital for now. If she doesn't respond to the antibiotics and rest, more tests to look for soft tissue problems will be in order. If she does respond appropriately to this approach, we can safely assume it was merely a severe infection. We'll see.

Meanwhile, a couple of additional interesting items ... First, when I got home this morning, I had a call informing me that we just landed a new client - one of the largest insurance companies in the US. And, as much as I hate insurance companies, I'm taking the business. Then, I received a second call about a trust I've been working on getting cleared up for the past 3 years. It turns out that, after all this time, the bastard NY attorney had an unexpected change of heart and overnighted a check today. Out of the dad gummed blue. Amazing.

You guys do good work.

We often gripe about our better halves...but the thing is...they ARE the thing that brings out the better half of ourselves. We had a little scare last year with cancer and I was struck with how utterly lost I would be without her. Gratefully, the problem was nipped...but it makes you think.

FAX, my better half is an RN and an ordained minister although she occupies her time managing our home (I say she eats Bon-Bons all day).

Anyway, the nurse in her says that 999 times out of 1000 would be an infection. Her spiritual person says that the bible states (paraphrased) to receive answered prayers, all we have to do is ask Him and believe.

God speed.
