They are 4th in total yards (268.7), 5th in Passing (155.7), 18th in rush d, but only giving up 3.8 ypc, 8th in scoring (16.7), even with the give me scores our O has provided by turnovers that were already in FG range for the other team.

LOL No, 29th. Fourth from the bottom. It's all about balance.

Think Baltimore Ravens and Trent Dilfer. It's our only hope this year.

No. More important: Bob Dole had the first reply.

Chris McAlister, Ray Lewis, Sam Adams, Siragusa, Rod Woodson, Peter Boulware, etc.....

If you think our defense is in the same galaxy as that one, you're smoking crack.

No crack being smoked. Just said it's our only hope.

I will say though if DJ keeps playing the way he is we are going to be a strong D.

If you take away the 14 pts scored by opposing defenses the pts per game against the defense averages 12. Not bad when you consider the number of giveaways and the other teams won the time of possession battle.
Best of all no TD's against in second half of games.

It took just 1 year to decimate our impressive O.

No one has schemed for the Chiefs' defense. We have safeties that are being fooled (missed TD by Minn and Bears success). DJ increase presence is new and teams will adjust. And teams are having success running the ball though I am willing to entertain that it is because the pass defense has been good. But we haven't played the strong passing teams yet. That will come.

Hopefully the offense will improve. I am hoping our Coach will decide maybe we can make this not quite Arena Football with passing early, scoring early and running late.

Denvers place is misleading because they lead in pass defense. But teams don't need to pass against them because they can run at will against Denver.

It's good to see the D being way up there...I can't believe the O is so bad, and I can't believe it's the players...coaching is our downfall on Offense. Either Herm, Solari, Curling Penis...somebody needs to go...

One could argue the other side of this, as well. For instance, our 2 safeties are very young and inexperienced. They should improve as the season goes on. We have 2 new LBers that are still trying to gel with the rest of the defense. Jared Allen just came back and that should only make the D numbers improve. We have a new FA and 2 rookies playing DT that should improve with playing time.

Projecting longterm, other than the corners, this D has plenty of youth and should remain pretty consistent for a while. Having added 2 new CB's this year (Patterson & Brackenridge) Brackenridge is already getting playing time, quite a bit.

What's most promising is that they have a very young DL, and its always easier to build and maintain either side of the ball with a strong line.

This may not be a Top 5 D. At this point, however, it's definitely Top 10. Top 10 Ds are supposed to perform very well against questionable offenses. So 4th in total yardage at this point is exactly where we should be.

That said, we're also 4th in sacks. We're still not getting a tertiary pass rush on the DL after Hali and Allen, but all three of our LBs have been incredible pass rushers so far. And most of our sacks have been coverage sacks, which says a lot about what Page&Pollard are doing out there.

The two massive passing opportunities that our defense has faced (the 80-yard TD in week one, the wide-open Viking in the endzone in week three) were both Greg Wesley's fault, as he was overaggressive in attacking the LOS instead of holding deep.

Denvers place is misleading because they lead in pass defense. But teams don't need to pass against them because they can run at will against Denver.

Like last year with the Raiders their pass defense was ranked #1 because nobody needed to pass against them. Now that the Raiders have some ability to score other teams are passing against them so now the fade doesn't look so dominant on paper anymore.
