View Full Version : Chiefs D moves up to #4 in the NFL

KCJohnny
09-24-2007, 09:02 PM
Kansas City’s resurgent defense currently ranks fourth in the league, allowing just 268.7 yards per game. The Chiefs are tied for fifth in the NFL, allowing an average of just 12.0 offensive ppg. In fact, Kansas City’s defense has allowed just three second-half points the past two weeks and hasn’t permitted a second-half TD in the season’s first three games.

Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards will be seeking his 50th regular season victory in Sunday’s contest. A nemesis to the Chargers in recent years, Edwards owns a 4-2 career record against San Diego. That coaching ledger includes an upset victory in the 2004 AFC Playoffs when Edwards’ N.Y. Jets squad registered a 20-17 OT win at Qualcomm Stadium (1/8/05). The Chiefs and Chargers split their two regular season meetings a year ago with Kansas City handing San Diego one of its two regular season losses as the Chiefs claimed a 30-27 victory at Arrowhead (10/22/06).

Such a total reverse of 2003....

so good to have a defense agian...

So good to have an offense that Olathe North could force 3 and outs all night long....

My how the tide has changed... We still are a laughing stock and should be a shamed of how our teams fortunes has turned...

Make no mistake, that is something to be proud of...Herm & Gun are doing a bang up job with those guys.

But if this O cant be brought to atleast middlin', it will all be for naught.

I want to like Herm, but he's making it damn near impossible...a run oriented attack is fine by me, but there HAS to be some imagination used.

This week was my breaking point, i thought Herm was supposed to have learned his lesson about pounding LJ into brick walls.

Cowher/Whisenhunt were smashmouth to the core, but they werent morons about it either.

You CANT protect your D with consecutive 3 & outs.

Fix it Herm.

They have some absolute tests on the schedule....SD, Cincy, Indy.....we'll see how they look in those games.

So far it's 3 weeks, I think Houston is about league average this year on offense and the other 2 are bad offenses.

A low-scoring contest would unquestionably be to Kansas City’sadvantage. The Chargers are just 4-34 (.105) in regular season action when being held to 17 points or less dating back to 2000, including a 2-13 (.133) mark at Qualcomm Stadium. KC allowed just 20 points in its last trip to SD, including just six points in the second half of a 20-9 loss (12/17/06). That game marked one of just four contests that the Chargers have been held at or below the 20-point barrier at home since the start of the 2004 campaign.link (http://www.kcchiefs.com/media/misc/chiefs_chargers_07r4.pdf)Defense can make the difference!!!!

Look who is ranked #3. The donkeys. They are giving up and unreal 88.3 yds passing per game. I know they have played some poor offenses, but that is still an impressive stat. However, they are awful against the run at 166 yds per game. Maybe Herm got mixed up and gameplanned for the donkeys last week. I think it would have actually been successful.

They are 27th in total offense..27th. Norv Turner is the worst head coach in the league. Do you actually believe that they are ranked that low just because of the defenses they played? If they are such an elite offense, then they should have been able to at least put up average numbers. I bet the Colts would still be top 10 after facing those same 3 teams. Hell, I bet the Chargers would have been top 15 or better under Schottenheimer. Our D is good, and getting better every week. If the chargers score more than 17 points on offense, I will be shocked.

I don't see it happening though.

It won't be easy, and none of this play like crap for 3 quarters and then pass like crazy, either.

I like our chances if we force TOs and get a defensive score. Stranger things have happened. Look for Donnie Edwards to torch his old team and take an errant Rivers toss to the house.

That's nice but the Chargers aren't Minnesota expect at least 20.....hell Chicago and Houston got that.

Agree that San Diego on the road will be a great test of just how good this defense really is.

But for the sake of clarity the defense didn't allow 20 to Houston and Chicago. Houston got 7 of their points off the Wilson (non) fumble and return and Chicago got 10 of their points off Devin Hester returns. Take those scores away from the total and the Chiefs are number two in scoring defense having allowed a total of only 33 points through three games (only 3 of those allowed in the second halves of games).

Now if we can get Solari to lead with the pass we'll be A-OK in my book!

I can't even think of how this game will go. I mean, I think the Offense can move the ball through the air if the chains are taken off. Our Defense will do well, but like we saw at home against the Dikes, they are prone to letting go of at least one TD drive and making it look easy for the opposing offense. I mean, Minny went through them like a hot knife through butter on their first drive. We can't afford that on the road at SD. We need to strike first, hell even if it's only a FG.

Chiefs can win, the Chargers are kinda screwed up right now. They are playing for pride at home against a division rival though. I don't expect them to put up a bad effort. Our D has to be perfect.
