I forgot mine today, and I feel naked and vulnerable. Plus, all of the women are ignoring me because they're afraid I might ask them out.

Yes. Women are more willing to talk to you when they know you are safe.

I coached women's softball for twenty years - they know who is safe and who is not....and whom they can trust (if you are not married but they are) and whom they can't.

I used to wear mine all the time, but it often got caught on things while I was working, and out of fear of being "de-gloved" I stopped.

A Dude! It was a lot of fun 'till I married my first baseman..er woman!

Seriously, she's a great woman and made all state first baseman at the Women's State tournament in 1987. Now we are coaching our daughter in the local fastpitch 12U travel team.

Serious work hazard for me...I have smashed 2 rings over the years with my finger IN 'em. The last time it trashed my wedding ring so my wifey bought this thick titanium/gold lord of the rings looking ring that I almost never wear.

It's a great thing to be allergic to jewelry. I can't where watches or I'll break out. My wedding ring started breaking me out too once softball season started so I stopped wearing it all together.

I wear mine all the time except at night (after I'm home), to bed or in the shower. Basically, if I leave the house the ring goes on.

I wear mine most of the time, and have lobbied to wear it less. My fingers swell alot and I've got a divet where it resides, and gets sore(its already a size 12)....

I'm doing more physical stuff, so its a more legitimate arguement than my previous job.

Most times, I don't know its there....but it does bother me sometimes and took a long while to get used to.

I actually lost the first one a couple of months after we were married while shotgun hunting deer. The cold either gave me finger shrinkage, or it slipped off in some deer guts.

I've been advised not to let that happen again.

I am. Its a consulting business in my area of expertise. I'm also working as a contractor(not a builder) doing some work for cashflow. Its a little different, but not bad. I'm also remodeling a house....which I need to keep progressing on, if I want to keep the need for a wedding ring.

I lost my wedding ring from when I was married the first time. I had a habit of twisting it around and did so while standing knee deep in the ocean. Gone. Some metal detector lucked out.

I lost the one currently on my hand in my "junk" drawer for over a year once - even though I looked for it there many times. It surfaced one day after my wife had bought a replacement.

I had a recent pay-cut (dramatic) after the company I work for was acquired a month ago. So, I totally understand what I've bolded. :)

HAHA, no nothing like that. Worse actually. We didn't get it fitted before the big day so it was too loose on my finger. Stupid me, on the drive from the ceremony to the reception a couple of miles away had my hand hanging out the window enjoying the beautiful day. Going down a hill and the ring just slipped off and DING DING DING down the street right into a storm drain.

Must have been pretty funny to passerby seeing four people in full formal wear, tuxedos and wedding dress, standing around a gutter trying to get something out.

I lost my ring at the lake taking down our trampoline in the water, we bought my ring on EBAY so it wasnt a big deal... (Funny how her wedding ring cost me my left nut)

I wear it almost all the time... Showers, bed, sports, or when i forget to put it back on...

The ring for girls is like an insurance policy. If you turn out to be a dud it's their thanks for playing consolation, along with half your net worth.

I can't think of a time when i would take it off. It's just a thick band of gold so it doesn't get in the way at all. I used to work construction and I knew a lot of guys that would not wear their rings for "safety". I call Bull shit. My ring never got in my way.

Basically, if you are not wearing your ring, you better have a damn good reason...

I lost mine two weeks ago. I was fiddling around with it in the dark and then "tink, tink, tink" down the driveway. Spent hours looking for it by eye, and then by metal detector, but never found it :(

I've heard enough missing ring finger stories that I'm safer than I probably need to be. I wear it when I'm running miter, table, and circular saws, nailguns, and regular cordless screw guns but if I'm running anything larger than that it comes off. Besides, the kind of women you'd pick up around constructions sites just aren't worth a whole lot.

It's not bull shit at all. I've heard enough horror stories about people losing fingers. Heck mine used to get caught frequently as I climbed down ladders, enough to get my attention that's for sure. If the Mrs wants me to wear my ring she can find me a sit down job that pays the same as I'm making now.

You are a dead man.

She wasn't even mad about it. In her exact words "It's just a thing"...

Me: "I realize that, but it has sentimental value."

Her: "But it can be replaced."

I was really hard on myself about it, but she just let it slide.

09-27-2007, 09:48 PM
Oh, and as far a losing the ring stories, once mine seemed to vanish right off my finger. It was all of a sudden gone one day and I couldn't remember taking it off. It was quite the mystery until a couple weeks later when I took a pair of gloves out of the closet, and when I put them on I suddenly had my ring back on too. The darn thing slipped off when I had taken the gloves off the last time I had worn them. It had stayed in right in place inside it.

I guess I should rephrase. I swung a hammer for a living, doing sheetrock and framing. It just never got in my way. I suppose working with machinery all the time might be a different story. I never had a problem on ladders either, but again, I only did that for like a year of my life.

Just wear the ring when you are not working. Call me old fashioned, but I'd be pissed if my wife did not wear hers.

Lost my first wedding ring from my first marriage while I was swimming at Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Very rough surf that day. When I told the ex, she accused me of pawning it for gambling money for the casinos, which wasn't true. I did, however, end up pawning the replacement ring for beer and gas money.

Best use I ever got out of the damned thing. :grr:

If my wife worked construction or played competitive sports with her left hand, I wouldn't have a problem with her taking it off. But she never does.

My first wife did and it was always for a reason.

Married and wear mine all the time

This thread does remind of a great Alec Baldwin moment from The Departed though:

Marriage is an important part of getting ahead. It lets people know you're not a homo. A married guy seems more stable. People see the ring, they think "at least somebody can stand the son of a bitch." Ladies see the ring, they know immediately that you must have some cash, and your cock must work.

I always wear mine with very rare exceptions (e.g. a recent surgery).

I lost mine once in a swimming pool. I realized it a couple of hours later and knew it must have come off in the pool so I was able to get it back.

My wife lost her original wedding ring. She's a health care professional and can't really wear a ring with a protruding stone on it, so she would take it off during work. Unfortunately, someone stole it out of her (unlocked) locker. Or so she said... haha

Actually, neither me or my wife have our original rings...she lost hers down the drain, and I lost my original less than a month after we were married. You do understand that a ring won't go all the way down the drain. It's probably still in the trap where it was lost. It would take a plumber about 2 minutes to remove the trap and drop the ring in your hand.
