Weird. The wmctv site has now taken the banner link off their front page. The link above still works for now.

This is a really weird situation right now. The campus is still apparently locked down.

One of the other news stories on the WPTY/WLMT (ABC/CW) site reminded me that just two days ago, an Ole Miss track star was found shot to death. Bizarre.

Oh goddamn it.

I just got back from the scene....tonight was the worst night of work I've ever had...to see players in shock...just tore me apart...I'm around the guys alot and have been for years now and I feel close to 'em...I wish I could explain the mood in the parking lot across from the scene...I knew something was terribly wrong when i pulled up and the 1st person I saw as John Flowers...my heart dropped...

I'd love to tell ya, on the board, what I know, but for work purposes I can't....but i think most of you can figure it out....the next few days will be tough for our football team...

This doesn't seem real.

Whoa! I graduated from that school. It does hit a little closer to home when it's a place that you've spend a significant amount of time.

Unfortunately...welcome to Memphis. This is not a particularly safe town, regardless of where you are. I was never a bit anti or pro-gun person, but about 6 months after I moved here I went out and got my carry permit and an HK...you've gotta watch out for yourself around here.

Condolences to the family/friends of the victim. The story from the U of Memphis newspaper. (http://www.dailyhelmsman.com/media/storage/paper875/news/2007/10/01/News/Classes.Canceled.After.U.Of.M.Football.Player.Murdered.On.Campus-3002711.shtml)

The U of M is actually the safest public campus in the state, statistically speaking.

The story going around now is that he won some money in Tunica a few days ago, and the person/people who shot him were trying to rob him. Unbelievable.

Unbelievable.According to the rankings released just last week, Memphis is the most violent city in the country. Saying that UofM is the safest public campus in the state...well, it's smack in the middle of a hole. It's kind of like being the most buoyant object stuck in the Titanic's cargo hold. It's nice, but what does it really get you?
