View Full Version : Kick returning problems... switch to Kennison?

What do you guys think? With Bowe, I don't know if Kennison is the #1 receiver anymore. Herm mentioned the X and Z positions getting equal touches in the offense, but that's a far cry from Eddie being the #1 go to WR on this team.

Do you think his old bones still got some return jobs left in him? He's still pretty damn fast and he's always looked good back there when Hall has been sidelined. I say we give the job to him when he's 100% healthy again.

If we get a bunch of Phinisee whiners on here, what if we put Sippio at Kennison's position and played Kennison at corner?

No way I'd put Kennison at risk on KR duty.

to me drummond looks like a good return, he has solid moves, obviously he probably shouldn't take it out of the end zone when they kick it 5 yards deep, but I haven't given up hope with him, the blocking isn't the best either

Switching the returner isn't going to help. As Herm and I have both noticed, the blocking isn't there right now.

Ironically, fumbling on returns is one of the reasons EK got booted out of St Louie back in da day.

Kennison's too valuable offensively to risk trotting him out there for return duty.

I'm not entirely ready to give up on Drummond because he's a wiley veteran who can produce consistently on returns.

If I did experiment I think it'd be with Webb, Sapp (once he's healthy) and Samie Parker.

I think Michael Bennett could prove useful there as well.
He's got good vision, great straight line speed and enough shiftiness to be relatively dangerous.

But there again, he's a very valuable piece of this offensive unit that's just beginning to produce. So on second thought... Scratch his name from my list.

If we switch, maybe Bowe @ CB.

Wasn't it posted a while back that Sippio ran a sub 4.4 40?

Oddly enough... with the emergence of Bowe, the return of Kennison, and Parker's new-found hands... I'm not sure where Sip fits.

Our ST kick return blocking is ****ing terrible.

Couldn't develop a freakin KICKER

Mike Priefer needs to be fired.

We just ****ed up that pick... it happens.

Ive always wondered why they never tried Sammie at returner. Prolly dont trust him fielding punts and I dont blame them.

Bennett is another option, but I believe Drummond will work out. Im sure they lit his ass up for bringing those kicks out, and that will be fixed. Our blocking has been horrible.

All I know is with our kickoffs going regularly in the endzone, I'm amazed at how much less nervous I am. Of course the blocking needs to be better too.

These last few years I bet the opposing teams were flat out drooling because they knew they'd get such short kicks. I would have been.

I thought Webb did a good job last year when he had an opportunity to return kicks...I'd think he'd be the ideal candidate. He's not doing jack shit in games right now...

...everyone says Sippio is slow, but what's his game speed like? They all said Tamba was slow too...

Giving Drummond two games worth of rope is fine for now. Parker, Sippio, or Webb deep makes sense, too, as either one wouldn't be getting any receiving reps.

But effective blocking, like you guys are saying, is key!

Parker can't catch. Yes he had a good couple of games this year, but on the whole, dude can't catch.

nope ..... i'd go with Dwayne bowe before kennison

heck i'd re-sign Phinise before going with kennison.

returning kicks is a young man's job

Peterson only picked up Drummon so he could try & get into the head of Matt Milen /jk

Drummond has been a huge disappointment.

For an all-Pro return man, you'd think he'd recognize that the blocking isn't set up right (if that's what you're blaming it on) and take that knee in the endzone.

Starting on the 20 beats the hell out of starting on the 16.

I cringe every time we receive a kick off, because I know we're going to be looking at 84+ yard drives every time.

If you hire a punt/kickoff return specialist, I expect more out of him than I would a rookie (drafted or free agent) returner, but either should be able to at least get the ball to the 20 on a regular basis.

Drummond has shown he can't.

Dante Hall is a tough act to follow. Even Ty Law tried to do a Dante on his pick sunday. He kept going backwards, but to his credit he gained some yards in the end

I was at the game last week and also noticed the return blocking was subpar. I'd give Drummond some more time assuming the blocking improves.

On another note...my god is it nice to not have to see kickoffs landing at the 15 with Morty or the 14 with Stoyo.

I think the biggest problems with the return game are blocking related, not so much Drummond.

RustShack
10-04-2007, 12:11 PM
Drummond is solid, he just needs better blocking. No way you put Kennison just coming off of an injury at risk doing KR/PR when there is no blocking. I wouldn't mind seeing Sippio snatch a couple KR's though, see what kinda speed he has on the field.

GarySpFc

It was probably posted... but it's false. Sippio's supposedly slow.

He did run a sub 4.40 prior to having ACL surgery.

The current depth chart show Kennison as #3 on punt returns.
