It was bad last year. That is one of the reasons we ran to the outside more less often and went to an up the middle approach. Now the middle sucks too. Also, it took NFL teams a while to adjust their strategy to exploit it. Herm/Solari made their job easier with the sideways passing offense.

Heading into the game we were averaging something like 3 yards/carry, and, as I recall, we didn't reach 80 yards on the ground in any of our first 3 games (72 against Houston, 70 against Chicago, 50 against Minnesota).
