Yeah it is. I don't know....

The Slam Dunk rallies are really just boring for me now. Do it during a game then I love it. I don't mean the showboat ones. I mean the ones where they are covered and did it anyway.

I remember a Jayhawk once jumping right over an opponent that was still standing up to dunk one down. AMAZING DUNK. Can't remember his name though. Right on the tip of my tongue but just can't remember it.

Yeah, facial dunks like that in a close game can sway the momentum just like an INT in football.

When I lived in Memphis I went to Knoxville to see KU play Purdue (Yes, I rooted for KU, I even bought a hat) and Glenn "big dog" Robinson dunked with one step in the paint over Greg Ostertag. It was a huge momentum swing.

Yeah, I felt that shift all the way to Dillon, Co where I was skiing that year. Felt awful.

Aww c'mon Saul, those dunks were fine the video was just crappy. Here's a high res pic of one of them. WSU has a lot of new faces. I don't know how good a team they are going to have but they have a good coach and a lot more athleticism coming in. They'll be fun to watch but they'll definately be better in Feb. than Nov.

Skip, per your request here's a little more information on Shox.

WICHITA STATE

GETTING INSIDE
New Shocker coach Gregg Marshall just does not know much about losing. That's a great sign for Wichita State fans used to winning after former coach Mark Turgeon's successful run.

Marshall inherits a good situation. Turgeon's final season, when WSU went 8-14 after a 9-0 start, should lower expectations this season. Turgeon's overall success leaves Marshall with good facilities, a sold-out arena and big-time assets such as chartered jets for road trips and recruiting. Turgeon took the Shockers to the Sweet 16 in 2006 and a No. 8 national ranking last season, so WSU can sell name recognition to recruits.

That should be enough for Marshall, who went to seven NCAA Tournaments in nine seasons at Winthrop. He went 21-8 in his first season at Winthrop. Shocker fans would take that improvement and raise their usual level of bonkers a notch.

Such a move will be difficult, but not impossible. Turgeon did not leave Marshall a fully stocked roster and his departure hurt the recruiting class. Marshall spent his summer scrambling to fill holes.

Teams beat up WSU's inside players last season, and the Shockers still lack size and depth at center. Marshall will start his tenure with a good backcourt and a lot of inexperience. Senior point guard Matt Braeuer is solid and experienced. Senior P.J. Couisnard moves from small forward to shooting guard. He is WSU's best all-around player and one of the Valley's fiercest defenders. He needs to improve his shooting from three-point range and the free-throw line to maximize his contribution.

Two other returnees are mysteries with intriguing potential. Forward Phil Thomasson, a senior with smooth post moves, played well in nonconference games last season. He disappeared when Valley play started. He can give the Shockers scoring and rebounding if he plays with confidence and toughness. Sophomore guard Gal Mekel, from Israel, showed flashes of creative passing and scoring. He struggled with turnovers and defense and is not a great athlete. He can help more in Marshall's system if he handles the ball carefully.

The Shockers face a lot of adjusting this season, with new faces and a new coach. There's enough talent to think they could make a move into the top four with the right breaks. Add in Marshall's track record and nobody should overlook Wichita State.

NOTES, QUOTES
STRENGTHS: Marshall's teams always play tough defense and the Shockers should continue that tradition. They are not big, but they are long and athletic and should defend jump shots well. On offense, P.J. Couisnard will no doubt take many of the big shots. He is a competitor and an unselfish player who will create good shots for teammates when necessary.

WEAKNESSES: WSU lacks a big man, depending on the status of freshman Ehimen Orukpe. If he is a factor, the problem may be solved. If not, WSU will again be small inside and must make up for it in other areas.

LAST YEAR: 17-14 overall, 8-10 in the MVC, lost in quarterfinals of MVC Tournament

HEAD COACH: Gregg Marshall (career 194-83); 1st year at Wichita State.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We'll play a mixture of zone and man-to-man. We're going to let our defense create some scoring opportunities and if not, we're going to run some set plays that have been very beneficial to us and steal a couple of baskets here and there." — Coach Gregg Marshall.

STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL
SCOUTING THE NEWCOMERS: Three forwards hold the key to WSU's season. Ramon Clemente is a hustler and a banger, although undersized at 6-foot-6. Mantas Griskenas is an athletic 6-foot-7 junior who can stroke it from outside the three-point arc. Freshman Aaron Ellis is long and lean with a nice jumper. If those three figure out Division I basketball quickly, the Shockers are in good shape.

KEY EARLY-SEASON GAMES: WSU travels to the Virgin Islands to play in the Paradise Jam in mid-November. The opening game is against Baylor, and other possible opponents include Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Charlotte and Winthrop, Marshall's former school. A good start in the tournament could give the Shockers a needed confidence boost. WSU plays Alabama-Birmingham and LSU at home in December.

PROGRAM DIRECTION: Hiring Gregg Marshall proves WSU is regarded as an excellent job. Marshall went to seven NCAA Tournaments at Winthrop, and turned down South Florida of the Big East. The Shockers enjoy great community support and basketball matters immensely in the athletic department. Its facilities compare with many higher-profile schools. It may take Marshall a season or two to get this program humming, but the Shockers should soon be a Valley contender again.

PROBABLE STARTING LINEUP: PG Matt Braeuer, SG P.J. Couisnard, SF Mantas Griskenas, PF Ramon Clemente and C Phil Thomasson.

ROSTER REPORT:

Orukpe, a 7-foot center from Nigeria, may arrive in December and could be eligible as early as a Dec. 15 game against UMKC. WSU is waiting on an exit exam required in Nigeria. There's no guarantee Orukpe ever plays at WSU. If he shows up, and if he can defend and rebound, the Shockers immediately become a more dangerous team.

Redshirt freshman J.T. Durley is working his way back into shape after a knee injury sabotaged last season. He is a skilled offensive player and a big body. He needs to improve his endurance and play hard consistently to help the Shockers.

Expect big things from small forward A.J. Hawkins next season. Hawkins is sitting out after transferring from St. Bonaventure. He averaged 12.2 points and 5.2 rebounds as a sophomore for the Bonnies. He is a good athlete and defender who is sometimes the best player on the floor in practices.
