I'm in the process of giving my mancave a facelift and am looking for a good deal on pendant lights for over my bar. Does anyone have a good online source for light fixtures?

You doing it yourself?

FYI, when we had our bad architect on our kitchen remodel, she told us that the lighting studios offer discounted rates to architects and set us up with it. We picked out all the fixtures and were ready to roll.

Then we passed from the design phase to the construction phase, and she gave us a proposal to manage the construction for some relatively hefty fee. We said no, and so she called up the lighting studio and told them to take away our discount.

Bottom line: don't hire our architect, but if you have an architect, buy the fixtures through them.

I'm trying to remember what company we bought our fixtures from. They're nice quality, but for the life of me I can't remember the name. Something German, starts with an H.

Here's a list of some manufacturers and their web sites. I have no idea if this is helpful or not, so please don't hit me.

What kind of pendant lights? I have two brand new ones that I bought for a previous house and never used. I'll try and get some photos for you, I could let them go fairly cheap.

No reason for an architect with this project. I'm just putting a sheet rock ceiling in, recessed lighting (which I already have), removing the bead-board half-wall, fresh paint, etc.

I'd take a look at them but the biggest problem is that I need four for this project. I'm looking for the type that would hang over a bar.

Something similar to this for example: http://elklighting.com/product_detail.php?type=PENDANT&collection=LACRIMA&item=503-1fr

I'm remodeling a 2000' "project"....I can't wait until a couple of light fixtures are left.(5 new installed, including 3 Ceiling fans to date)....new water lines last weekend.

Other than.........i can't make myself type the list.....I'm almost done.

I did take photos of this flipper....and some during the process so far, that I might post in the handy-man thread at some point.

I've never done any drywall work but I have a buddy that has and he has all of the necessary tools. We are going to use 12 footers and a sheet rock jack so I think it will be relatively easy. I've still got five can lights to install and wire then the electrical portion will be complete. Most of the demolition is done with the exception of removing about 30 linear feet of bead board. The room is 600 square feet so it is a pretty big project but I'm in no huge rush. I want it done by mid-January at the latest.

Here are the one's I have. I hadn't even opened the box until tonight, but they obviously have no place in a man cave. Off to ebay with these.

Yeah, those would turn the man cave into a man salon. Thanks for checking though. :thumb:

Since we're on the topic of remodeling some thug named Phil recently finished up my kitchen project by doing the back splash (among other things). Here are a few shots of his grade A craftsmanship!!

Wow. That is awesome. Who is this "Phil" guy and how can I get him to work on my house?

Heh. I'm doing Alphaman's basement right now. Huge project. He doesn't spend much time on the Planet these days. I bumped into him over at Warpaint a couple months ago when he was looking for a basement guy. This may turn into my favorite project when we're done. Concrete countertop wetbar, home theater, and a pretty awesome budget bathroom.

Enclosed our carport to make a home office/guest room/storage space for our house, since we needed another room for the little addition to the family. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, though there are things that irritate me (as there always are when I do the work myself)

phin....is the floor clear coat on plywood or laminent flooring or what?

Long, long ago, I broke up with a live-in (not so) significant other. I moved out and took almost nothing with me, and lived basically on the floor of a vacant apartment for a few months until I could get my stuff.

At some point, I got a date, and for reasons unknown, I took her back to my place. We came in, and for the first time I really noticed that my only furniture was a mattress on the floor and a couple of lamps like these:

She must've thought I was the least successful porn director ever.

Yeah. It's just plywood with 4 layers of polyurethane on it. We like the plywood look for now, but we might get sick of it in the long run. If so, I'll probably put in a slate floor or some other type of tile. We'll be adding a rug in the near future just to give to break it up a little bit.

We're not too far from a Wal-Mart. Does that count?

That's a cool look, if you combine it with industrial elsewhere. I'd put in some heavy pendants, galvanized wainscoting, pipe, or some use for airline cable.

But the beauty of it is that you have to put down plywood anyway and polyurethane is cheap.

The point I was trying to make (hopefully without offending) was this:

Instead of the globe pendants shown in the below picture....
http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/attachment.php?attachmentid=73827

Put up something like the below fixtures (not necessarily dropping $200 per)

Jim, I saw some small pendants on sale at Home Depot a couple days ago. They were basically giving them away. I think they were blue. If that interests you I'll look for them tomorrow. Let me know and I'll pick 'em up and send you a picture. If you like them I'll send 'em. If you don't I'll either return them or put them into inventory.

Yeah, it's not bad. It's pretty hot in modern design right now (another reason we may or may not like it long term). The lights actually are fairly industrial. They're the lights you see in most waffle houses and in quite a few other commercial applications. We have a friend who is a hairstylist, and she had some extra globes she'd got for her salon, and we snagged them from her. Those globes are the lights my wife has been wanting for a long, long time but that are really hard to find for some reason.

Before we stumbled up on them, we had ordered thesepewter globes (http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=440&f=3483&viewall=1) from CB2, but we ended up selling them and going with the glass globes instead. The pewter globes were actually also a lamp, so I was going to have to convert them and hardwire them in. Not a big deal, but finding a nice ceiling mount plate that would work with them was becoming a problem.

As for offending... heh... not a concern. When you make some of the "interesting" design choices my wife and I make with our house, you get used to comments. The most common one with this additions has been: "So when are you going to put the floor down? Shouldn't you do that before you move the furniture in?"
