View Full Version : Herm - coach of the year?

Cole (Kansas City): Can the Chiefs shut down the Raiders offense? Where do you rate the play of Jarred Allen, Donnie Edwards and Derrick Johnson this year? An up-and-coming defense?
SportsNation Chris Mortensen: The Chiefs are a great surprise to me. And the defense is a primary reason. Gunther Cunningham has done a great job and Donnie Edwards has brought in some leadership (and skill). Derrick Johnson could be a Pro Bowl guy one day and Jared Allen is a stud. Herm Edwards is now on my coach of the year list.

Mort picked the Raiders to win. But then again in the Jets vs Bengals he took the Chargers

you know what, the media created this 'the Chiefs are horrible' sensation and now they are calling us a surprise...
Uhm, we won 9 games last year, went to the playoffs, and we GOT BETTER IN THE OFFSEASON.
Shame on the dumbasses who predicted 5 wins for this team.
We were a 9 or 10 team all along, the only difference between this year and last is we had an extremely difficult first four games and we have an extremely difficult last four games...but this is the stretch where we make a run and the media will start pimping the Chiefs...
and then of course we'll lose our last two and back into the playoffs.

Just because everyone in the national media expected us to suck doesn't mean Herm has done a great job.

Funny. Bob Dole would give him a 3/6.

the only move i've disagreed with is starting damon "god ****ing dammit" huard. if the chiefs make the playoffs, herm should definantly be considered. however, in order to win in dec and jan, you have to run the ball and so far the chiefs have shown no ability to consistantly run the ball. still finishing 8-8, no playoffs IMO.
8-8 is better than my original 6-10 prediction, but the team is playing better than i thought they would, all except damon "god ****ing dammit" huard.

It's just getting real old.
Damon has played well this year. I can understand a lot of fans want to see Croyle and I get that...but you can still want that without bashing Huard and the way he has played, especially after a 25-35 two touchdown performance...
but hey, what do YOU know?

Damon's played real well. Well enough to get us to 2-4. Thankfully we won despite him in the Minnesota game.
But, hey, I get it. Some people are fine with mediocre.

You moron. Huard lit the Vikings on fire in the second half of that game.

Huard's winning games right now. Okay, so he's no Manning, but he doesn't have to be. As long as KC keep the W's ticking over, I have no issue with Huard.
Croyle's proved nothing over 4 quarters, and based on pre-season evidence, I find it hard to believe he's an upgrade over Huard. I get the argument about starting youth, though.

i know if i see one more dump off to the HB/FB when bowe or gonzo are single covered down field, i'm gonna be sick. if i watch damon telegragh where he's going to put the ball one more time, i might be hospitalized, and if i see him start looking for a soft place to land 3 seconds before a sack i'm just gonna drop dead where ever i'm at. i understand he's played alright, i'm just scared to death of another 8-8 season, and not knowing if we need a qb.

c'mon, i hate this guy and i can admit he's played above his talent level a couple of times this year, second half of the vikQUEEN game was one of them.

hey...
that is our offense...
a dump off pass is how we run the ball when we can't run the ball, did you ever consider that?
Do me a favor...watch a Packers game and count how many times the GREAT Brett Favre checks down...because he does it more than Huard.
and complaining about Gonzalez not being targeted enough?! Dude is off to the best start of his career...
and after watching Trent Green last year, please don't complain about Huard taking too many sacks...because he is making our pass protection look a lot better than it really is with his quick decisions...sometimes he misses a receiver...BUT SO DOES EVERY QB IN THE NFL.

You misunderstand the intelligence that is Damon Huard. He knows if the Chiefs get a nice lead, then Brodie comes in & steals his starters spot.
Damon knows when to hold 'em

does favre go from his number 1 target, straight to the dumpoff? i don't think so. other wise he wouldn't be the great brett favre, he'd be meh brett favre.and complaining about Gonzalez not being targeted enough?! Dude is off to the best start of his career....
it was more of a complaint that huard doesn't go through his progressions, not that gonzo wasn't getting enough touches.and after watching Trent Green last year, please don't complain about Huard taking too many sacks...because he is making our pass protection look a lot better than it really is with his quick decisions...sometimes he misses a receiver...BUT SO DOES EVERY QB IN THE NFL.
i never brought green up. he's done, nuff said bout that. EVERYTIME, huard drops back he goes from one to dumpoff. this is my biggest problem with him. i watched defenses roll a safety up into the box, and the other inside the hash marks. i see this and start screaming that bowe will be open.

Agreed. "The experts" are everything but experts. And we didn't "back in" to the playoffs...
"Let's not get this thing twisted and think we backed into this deal. We didn't lose, we won. Every team that played this weekend played at home and had an opportunity to get into the playoffs just like us. We just happened to win. What's wrong with that? So, let's not get it twisted and say, 'Well, they're lucky.' We didn't get lucky. We won."
If KC wins the division, he should be considered for COY.

Thats bullshit now days. YOu dont have to run the ball in Dec and Jan to win it all. The Patriots and the Colts are passing teams that imo arent the greatest of running teams. You need a good defense and a solid offense. Doesnt matter if your running or passing just as long as your scoring.
Times have changed.

How about this - if you don't have a top 5 QB, you need to be able to run the ball.
When a team without a top QB tries to throw the ball all the time they look the Lions. Or us in the Jaguars game.

I hope you are kidding when you say this. What was Johnson doing before he got hurt that was helping us win ball games? He had 3 good games out of 8 starts, the rest were pretty apathetic on his part. BTW, here are Johnson's stats compared to Smith's. I know it's just two games, but with how Smith has handled the last two games, I don't think Johnson's injury has really hurt this teams chances of winning.
