View Full Version : Journeyman quarterbacks for King Carl to consider

Hammock Parties

Since Brodie will obviously never see the field, I thought I would help Carl out with a handpicked list of journeyman quarterbacks he can recycle after Huard gets done. We might even get to give up a first-round pick for one of these guys! Some of these are even young, so Carl can even say he's rebuilding! It's the best of both worlds!

1. Derek Anderson, Cleveland - Anderson will surely give way to Quinn next season, and is a free agent anyway I believe. He has 14 TD passes already. Plus, he's only 24! And he's really tall (6-6), reminiscent of Elvis Grbac!

2. Sage Rosenfels, Houston - Did you see this guy sling four touchdown passes Sunday? A diamond in the rough! Rosenfels has been passed around the league like a two-dollar whore for the better part of a decade now. He's just waiting for his big break. Step up to the plate, King Carl! 29 years old so you can give him the Trent Green treatment.

3. J.P. Losman, Buffalo - with Trent Edwards playing well, it looks like the Bills might be ready to dump Losman. This one works out well because if King Carl slaps him in a #12 jersey, fans won't know the difference between JP and Brodie Croyle! They are both smallish, mobile passers with big arms. And they both make horrible decisions with the football! And he's only 26!

PULL THE TRIGGER, CARL! WE'RE WAITING FOR YOU!

It's called humor. And besides, I only support Huard for one season at this point. If Croyle were to win the job in preseason next year, I would fully advocate him as starter.

JV football. I was a Jr. and only dressed for a couple JV games that year because they needed depth and I was elgilble because I wasn't a Senior and only play on defense. I was in for one play, because I wanted a crack at him. He threw a bomb for a TD. I wasn't close.

Actually I thnk we do need to go this route. We need to find a way to see what Brodie has this year, but if he's the guy we then need to get a back up like this. I like Anderson.

Did you see Vinny throw that bomb to Steve Smith? At age 70 Vinny still has a better arm than Huard.

I guess I want to see hm play with the starters

Anderson is going to be a starter whereever he goes.

I've already made my unfortunate prediction and I'll do it again.

I'm calling my shot(not the one I want, but a Carl move).

Pennington is running out of New Jersey Jet HQ this offseason......they'll have a new, young starter soon......and Herm LOVES HIM SOME PENNINGTON.

Sorry, Losman and Anderson are far too young. They could still improve. We'll only get guys that have plateaued or are declining. More realistic options include Brian Griese, Chad Pennington, Steve McNair, or Trent Dilfer. Much more in line with our past.

The world would end if we started a QB under 29

There is a reason you are a writer and Carl is a GM. It might take a little longer than some of us might like, but Brodie IS going to eventually get his chance.

I doubt it, and that's not a bad thing. I think Herm has seen enough to know that Brodie is not the QBOTF and that's the reason Huard is in there. Now, Brodie's the backup and will still be needed if something happens to Huard, so Herm can't just come out and say this. But there is no reason to stick with Huard unless the decision has been made that the fan's WonderBoy Brodie is not the answer.

I like Herm, and he's gone with the young QB before. No reason why he wouldn't do it here, other than he just doesn't have one that he can put in there.

Everyone wants to see Brodie in the game so that he can be evaluated. Herm has seen him plenty and already knows the evaluation, without having to see him get embarassed out on the field.

I wouldn't consider Derek Anderson a "journeyman". More like an up and coming young QB. This is his first year getting significant time as the starter (he played a few games last year but was just filling in for an injured Frye) after a couple of years on the bench. If Croyle doesn't work out, I would take DA in a heartbeat ('course, I am a homer :) ).

Chief Faithful
10-25-2007, 11:00 AM
Carl usually goes for QB's who are second string mostly, but not always, old guys who have lost the starting job to youth. As long as Pennington remains the starter we are safe. If Pennington gets benched we are doomed.

Pray that Quin becomes the starter this year in Cleveland that will make Anderson more attractive to the King.
