I know this type of thread has been done to death, so apologies.

We're headed out there in a few weeks (and should have been out there to watch the Chiefs and Raiders. Carlota looks like she knows how to throw a party, God bless her. If this turns into an annual trip, we WILL be part of it.....), and we're looking for some good tips on places to eat. We've been to Vegas.com, and really, there's just too much info to make up your mind without getting some first hand accounts.

The first person to suggest Outback gets neg repped.

They have a Del Frisco's there--one of the very best steak joints in the country, imho.

Hell, I figured it would cost a cool hundred a plate.

And I'm interested in a more casual atmosphere.

And somewhere on the strip. We won't have a car, so I'm trying to make it as easy as I can (although we can take a cab).

Do yourself a favor: Go to Treasures Adult Men's Club. Get reservations for their steakhouse. It's $90, which includes cover charge, a 7-course dinner and 3 top shelf drinks. Plus the strippers will come out and keep you company while you eat. They might even do some things with the cheesecake desert.

I went there for a bach party. It was great. I had a lady of the night cut my meat and serve it to me.

Delmonico's at the Venetian. One of Emeril Lagasse's restaurants. Great steaks, great everything. Try the lobster bisque too. Expect to pay about $50 for the steak, probably $75 to $100 per person total. Not casual (although if you go for lunch they don't have a strict dress code, I wore shorts), but amazing food.

The Big Steer

Its in Altoona next to Des Moines, but if you want Steak or Prime Rib its the place to go. Heck if its good enough for John Madden to stop at when he's driving through, it should be good enough for you.

Some of the people I deal with in politics always want to go to 801 Grand in Des Moines, but I always get them to the Big Steer. Its Iowa, nothing fancy, just really really good.

I know this has nothing to to with Vegas, but Vegas is the last place on earth I think about when thinking about steak or beef.

I've only been to Vegas once, but the people I was meeting with took me to Austin's Steak House, which is in the Texas Station Casino. Its not on the strip but it was really good. They said it was the best around. Just so you know it was the only place I've had a steak in Vegas.

I like this review Dartgod:

We should have trusted our instincts....and ran out the door!!! I don't know how in the world they got voted Best....worst steak ever. Tough tough tough....and COLD!!! Felt stupid leaving a tip. Do yourself a huge favor....pay more and go somewhere else. Food especially the steak was horrible and cold. We get a better steak at sizzler....NO KIDDING. And I felt responsible because I told everyone that it was rated very high. Needless to say....my husband was VERY UNHAPPY! Do yourself a huge favor..........CANCEL YOUR RESERVATION. ONLY GOOD THING WAS THE HUGE COSMOPOLITAN IN THE BAR... DRINKS WERE GENEROUS. THAT IS TRUTHFULLY THE ONLY NICE THING WE CAN SAY ABOUT THIS SO CALLED "STEAK-HOUSE". horrible horrible horrible. I CAN ONLY HOPE IT WAS AN OFF NIGHT. CUZ IT WAS A REALLY BAD STEAK. MY HUSBAND HAD A HUGE SLAB OF TOUGH RIB EYE (IS THAT POSSIBLE??) AN D I OPTED FOR A SMALL FILET THAT SEEMED BURNT ON THE OUTSIDE AND COMPLETELY RAW ON THE INSIDE. NOT RARE....RAW. AND COLD. GROSS. WAITER WAS NEVER AROUND. SAT OUT WINE AT A TABLE NEXT TO US TO KEEP IT OUT OF THE ISLE, SO OUR GLASSES WERE NOT KEPT FILLED. DESERT AFTER THE DINNER WAS NOT AN OPTION. WE GOT THE HECK OUT OF THERE. ICK!

Pros: BAR DRINKS

Cons: HORRIBLE STEAKS

Yeah, I read that one. Some people cannot be pleased no matter what. There were only 4 bad reviews out of 41.

Delmonico's has plenty of bad reviews as well...

My filet mignon was raw (blood red) when I ordered medium rare. My date's steak was over done and charred. We expected a lot more from Emeril's name. Hardly seems to justify the big price tag. Most people eating there are older. It has nothing to do with the price, more of the older atomosphere I guess. We felt a little out of place since we were the only young couple there.

Pros: good location
Cons: food

How this resturant can brag it is a great place for groups is beyond me. We made a reservation at one week in advance for a Thursday evening. We were a party of 13 celebrating a family reunion and 21st birthday. The staff refused to seat us together and we had to sit at 2 separate tables. We should have left right than and there. The food was mediocre-the flavor of the beef drown in barbeque sauce of some type and the potato in horseradish dressing. Tasty, but overdone. The service was adequate but lacking experience. A waitress placed a side of brocolli on our table. Fortunately, no one sampled it because several minutes later, the waitress removed it from our table stating that it was put there "by mistake." We watched her put it on another table. If you insist on blowing money, go to the craps table.

Cons: Food, Cost, Service

I have eaten at a lot of fine steakhouses, this one (http://www.luxor.com/dining/dining_luxor_steakhouse.aspx) ranks right up there at the top. Service, Price and above all the food, are all excellent.

I watched Anthony Bourdain chow down on a filet at Bobby Flay's restaurant in Ceasers (i think). Bourdain is a prick about food (in a good way), and doesn't like Flay, but he liked the steak.

There is also a Smith and Wollensky on the strip, right next to the MGM Grand. Never been there, but they specialize in steak.

I found a top 10 list here:
http://www.gayot.com/restaurants/bestof/lasvegas_steakhouse.html

Seems there is a Craftsteak in Vegas now, in the MGM. That is run by Tom Colicchio, the Top Chef guy.

And I'm interested in a more casual atmosphere.

If you're there on a Monday go to the Monte Carlo Brew Pub for MNF very casual and they have a Steak and Stein meal which includes a draw of any beer all for $16.95.

They also have a boatload of giveaways including a drawing just before kick-off where one lucky winner and their guest get the use of an oversized leather couch right up front with a giant screen tv,two appetizers and two of those giant beer bong like things.

I'd suggest getting there no later than 4:30 though.

Nothing wrong with a filet once in a blue moon. Speaking of blue moon, the winter beer Full Moon is rather tastey. If anyone cares.

Not to be a jerk, but wouldn't that make him half a man given the definition of a porterhouse?

Back on topic though - I saw that Bourdain episode as well and second TC. He seems to know what good food is, anywhere.

I may be in the minority here but my wife and I go here EVERY time we go to Vegas er...Henderson.

Billy Bobs steak house and saloon has some of the BEST steak I have ever eaten and prices aren't so outragous that it keeps you from coming back,

I think I paid $30 to $35 or so for the 24oz KC Stri...er New York Strip!

It is off the beat and path from the strip though.
