RAIDERS DUMP MIKE WILLIAMS

An industry source tells us that the Oakland Raiders have parted ways with receiver Mike Williams.

Williams, the tenth overall pick of the Lions in the 2005 draft, had been a major disappointment during his time in the NFL. He was traded in the 2007 offseason to the Raiders, and some thought that the reunion with coach Lane Kiffin, who worked with Williams at USC, would turn his career around.

It didn't, and so Williams is done.

He'll be subjected to the waiver system. If he clears waivers, he'll be free to sign with any team.

Williams initially was headed to the draft in 2004, by virtue of the trial court ruling in the Maurice Clarett litigation. But because Williams hired an agent before the Clarett case was reversed, Williams was not permitted to return to USC. He entered the 2005 draft after sitting out a full year of football.

Parhaps Charles Rogers and Ricky Williams are looking for a partner for some little start-up opportunity.

Anybody Know anything about ex Steelera CB Colclough?

Only that it sounds he is named for some obscure disease.

I heard on the radio someone saying on Sunday that they put out feelers about Dominick Rhodes. Supposedly they were thinking about waiving him, but didn't want him to go to a division rival.

Wow. A couple of years ago Mike Williams was the THE talk of the draft because of his size and speed and coming off of a huge season at USC. THEN the claurette thing happened, he had to basically sit out an entire year and STILL has not recovered. I thought he would really be a good WR in this league, I guess not.

I wonder if the Titans are interested, they got Norm Chow

I seem to remember some people around here being high on him during that draft...

Wow! Let's pick him up. He's worth a shot. Pay him league minimum. Maybe a change of scenery will be good for him. Herm seems to have a knack for dealing with problem children. Maybe we'll find a jewel in the rough. We'll get 1st round talent for peanuts. You can teach speed. We just need to take it one game at a time. We're only thinking of next weeks game, not beyond that. There's no I in team. I can't throw it and catch it too.

Yet another Matt Millen Top 10 draft pick has been officially certified as a bust, as the Lions have shipped Mike Williams to the Oakland Raiders. The trade also sent backup quarterback Josh McCown to Oakland in exchange for the Raiders' fourth-round pick (105th overall) tomorrow.YY

Easy to laugh now, but any Chief fan would have been doing cartwheels and back flips had he dropped to your pick in 2005. This cesspool would have been sayin, "print em!".

In the '70's, I owned 3 carwashes in Chanute, Ks. I had signs that said "Our Vacs Really Suck" at all three. One Sunday, on the first tee at the country club, the local judge asked me if I was the guy putting up obscene signs all over town.

Mike is just to big and to slow to be a WR, if you wanna use him as an undersized 3rd TE that pretty much just runs pass routes, or does H-Back type of stuff he might be able to be decently productive that way.

I am sure you wanted the Chiefs to take him in the draft though, huh? :hmmm:

Rivals' draft profile listed him at 230, and then he went to Detroit and got fat. I wonder how much he weighed.

I was never really high on Mike as an NFL player, I lean more to guys like Lee Evans than Mike Williams.

I think being a fat, slow bastard who isn't lining up against 5'7 cornerbacks hurt him.

One of Williams' strengths coming out was his good hands. He showed nothing but stone hands since coming into the league though.

You figure he could just use his body to create seperation because he is so big but it seems he lacks football talent

Mecca
10-30-2007, 09:57 PM
I think if you signed Williams and switched him to TE and used him as a 3rd TE/H-Back guy who was used mostly as a receiver and not asked to block much he could be used as a decent role player.

I think he has the skills to get open against LB, corners not so much.

He got open sunday on fourth down. Unfortunately the ball hit him in the hands. Maybe him and Leinert can hook up in the Arena League.

Thats true... he was available as a target. You just never knew when he was actually going to hang on to the ball once it hit his hands. It seemed like the guy just didn't want the ball. Kinda like he didn't mind getting into position for a reception & putting his hands out, but wasn't particularly interested in grabbing the ball once it hit his hands. Some kinda brain disconnect going on... much like what we went through with Ricky Dudley. Now we see why Detroit gave him up for half of a 4th round pick.....
