Of course we know LJ has received delay of game penalties for spiking the ball after the play is blown dead.
But why didn't Jared Allen get a delay of game penalty after picking up or stripping the football at about the Packers' 21-yard line and ran/trotted all the way to the end zone? It was after the whistle had clearly blown the play dead last Sunday in the first quarter (I think it was the first series for Green Bay). The refs saw him continue on his way and didn't even bother to blow the whistle again.
Then, later in the game, Favre threw the football off to the side which went behind the intended receiver. At first it wasn't clear if it was a forward pass or a lateral. No whistle was blown. The intended receiver ended up kicking the ball out of bounds. No flag was thrown. Then, after reviewing to see whether the throw was a pass or a lateral, I believe it was determined that it was actually a pass which of course was incomplete so the play would normally stop at that point. But the refs then penalized Green Bay player for kicking the ball.
Rationalize at your pleasure.
