Could someone explain to me:

How is Michigan ranked #12?!!?

September 1 Appalachian State L 34-32 0-1 (0-0) Big Ten Network
September 8 Oregon L 39-7 0-2 (0-0)
September 15 Notre Dame W 38-0 1-2 (0-0)
September 22 No. 10 Penn State W 14-9 2-2 (1-0) September 29 at Northwestern W 28-16 3-2 (2-0) Big Ten Network
October 6 Eastern Michigan W 33-22 4-2 (2-0) Big Ten Network
October 13 Purdue W 48-21 5-2 (3-0) Big Ten Network
October 20 at Illinois W 27-17 6-2 (4-0)
October 27 Minnesota W 34-10 7-2 (5-0)
November 3 at Michigan State W 28-24 8-2 (6-0)
November 10 at Wisconsin Losing 23-21 -
November 17 No. 1 Ohio State

AFAIC those are the only games that mean anything. They've beaten one decent team, gotten spanked by another, and lost to a D-II school. :shake:

USA Today/Coaches Poll (1/3)

6Computer Rankings (throw out hi and lo scores) (1/3)

I don't see KU going past 3 in either of the first 2, they might be #1 in the third.

So, if LSU is #1 in 1+2, then If they are at least 3 in the Computers, then their score would be (1)+(1)+(3)/3 = 1.67

KU might be (3)+(3)+(1) = 2.3

LSU wins...for now.

Its not quite that easy unless LSU was the unanimous #1 with every vote in both the first two polls. The Harris and coaches poll gives a ranking based on total votes possible, not an integer ranking, so if you are #1 with 1450 out of 1500 votes in one poll, that would be worth a 0.967 score, not 1.000.

In other words, if the voters are wishy-washy between Oregon and LSU with both of them close #1/#2, and KU was the solid 3 in polls and #1 computers, they could jump them both depending on the numbers.

my uninformed opinion is, assuming an OSU loss today (please please please):

1. LSU/Oregon win out - play for championship
2. KU wins out - play for championship??? (i don't think they are better than either LSU/Oregon)
3. LSU or Oregon loses another: then the team from the Big 12 Championship with 1 loss goes to the title game: OU,KU, or MU

the only thing I can't figure is #2...who would KU jump if they are undefeated?

I'll take any of those... LSU, Oregon, and the winner of the Big 12 are the three most deserving, IMO. Even if Ohio State wins out, they haven't done anything more than last year, and technically less since Michigan was ranked so high last year.

No, but a lot of their wins came against programs with a pulse. (As a schedule guy, should be able to see the clear difference between LSU/Oregon and MU, whose loss is better but wins are far inferior. You're quick to point out KU's garbage wins which is the reason for no losses - good luck to KU or MU playing LSU or Oregon's schedule.)
