RB Gilbert Harris Promoted to 53-Man Roster, Battle Added to PS
Nov 21, 2007, 3:45:23 PM

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has agreed to terms of a three-year contract with RB Gilbert Harris, adding him to the club’s 53-man roster from the practice squad. Per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreement were made available. To make room for Harris on the 53-man roster, RB Priest Holmes was placed on Injured Reserve. In addition, Kansas City added RB Jackie Battle to the club’s practice squad.

Harris (6-2, 235) attended training camp with the Chiefs in 2007 and was on the practice squad for the first 10 weeks of the season. He saw action in 33 games (13 starts) at both tailback and fullback for Arizona, totaling 172 carries for 633 yards (3.7 avg.) with eight TDs. He also caught 48 passes for 350 yards (7.3 avg.) and two TDs. Harris prepped at Churchill High School in San Antonio, Texas.

Battle (6-2, 238) signed with Dallas as a rookie free agent in 2007 and attended training camp with the Cowboys, but was released prior to the start of the regular season. Battle finished his career at the University of Houston setting a school record with 31 rushing TDs. In 41 collegiate games, Battle tallied 441 carries for 2,120 yards (4.8 avg.) with 31 TDs. He prepped at Humble High School in Humble, Texas.

Harris was listed as a FB on the practice squad roster when I checked it earlier today to see if we had a RB on it. I figured that'd be the guy we signed. Do practice squad players have a playbook?

Jackie is a decent talent. I wish he was in the farm system before now for situations like this.

I think he's a 53-caliber guy.

That's a very good question. I would assume they would know some of what is going on.

Harris looked decent in the preseason. Personally I thought he should have made the roster over Boomer. I have no idea how his running skills are.

We are pretty damn close to the least talented offense in the NFL.

Wonder if we will see as many defenders in the box now.

I believe defenses will play straight up.
They'll still force Croyle to beat them, but perhaps they won't stuff 8 into the box.

Wait for it...

With Smith at RB, maybe we're in the discussion, but with LJ I very much disagree.

We just lack it at the spot(s) where you really need it (unless you have coaches who can protect against a lack of talent with schemes, which we don't): OT.

Give this unit a solid left tackle and put McIntosh on the right side and we'd be more than able to produce points with the talent in place. It'd just be a case of actually being allowed to.

These are guys who couldn't beat out Kolby Smith in camp.
They will see limited action.

If Kolby gets hurt, we're in deep kimshee. In fact, we're already there.

There's a tiny % of possibility that one of these guys is a sleeper. I think the lesson we will learn here is the Priest was getting max production from this awful rushing attack and none of these guys will be able to do half as good.

I agree. He and Kolby would make a good 1-2 punch.
More like 2-3, since we really don't have a 1.

I sure do wish the crowd would start to get like the 80's so we could get a change in management.

Hmmm? Why not, it's not like we are going to the Super Bowl this year. Now is the time to see if any of these guys have what it takes for next year.
