I heard Bill Parcells (the poster, not the coach) say that Herm could have the greatest OL, QB, WR, and OC in the world and he would still coach this way.

What do you think? Let's assume the Pats will win, their record will be 11-0, the Chiefs are 4-7.

Lets say we got in our time machine and went back to Training Camp. We send Herm, Solari, Dick Curl and co to NE, Carl kidnaps Belichick, et al and drags them kicking and screaming to 1 Arrowhead Drive.

Same Rosters and Schedules. What would our respective records be?

Poll to follow, vote 2x only please (yes, this means YOU JBucc! :# :) )

NE would definitely still have a better record than us based on their talent alone. We'd probably have a couple more wins than we do now.

That's how I see it. I could believe that this team could have been 7-4 instead of 4-7, becuase the talent is there, it just being used so poorly and often not in the right places.

Herm plays for FGs, yet he doesn't have a FG kicker that can kick. We made a bonehead decision to take Medlock over Crosby, Medlock was given no competition in camp, and then we had to scramble to find someone (Rayner) when Medlock tanked. Now we don't trust Rayner enough to kick the tying FG from the 20 with 5 minutes to go?

What the hell is going on here?

How the hell can you protect your defense, if you're not giving them a chance to be protected if the offense is going 3 and out? Why is our corners, for some reason, playing 10 yards off the line of scrimmage?

The Chiefs should had won this game and the Indy game, but Herm's inability to manage the game is costing the Chiefs those victories. The other win was the Denver game, where for whatever reason, the Chiefs were flat. That's on Herm becuase he is responsible for getting the team prepared to play, yet I see NOTHING that resembles that the team is beign prepared to play.

NE has enough offensive talent to overcome an inept coaching staff..and Herm would have their defense playing at a high level. They would still probably lose a couple games (Indy, Dallas), based on conservative playcalling, but 9-2 is pretty reasonable.

The Chiefs could easily be a 7-4 team, and I'm sure Bellichek and his staff would find a way to utilize this horrendous line and running game, and design plays for Brodie to throw downfield and open up the run game.

My votes:

NE 9-2
KC 7-4

We don't have enough offensive talent/experience to be a 9 win team regardless of coaching staff, but a division lead and winning record would be attainable.

Great question, Mr. banyon. Thought provoking and sad.

I agree with Mr. GonzoRox88. Our fates would be improved significantly ... two to three win difference for both teams, unfortunately.

How about we just look at history. Belichick in Cleveland:

1991 - 6-10
1992 - 7-9
1993 - 7-9
1994 - 11-5
1995 - 5-11

Plus year 1 in New England:

2000 - 5-11

This Chiefs team has talent comparable to those teams. Our offensive line is worse than any of those teams.

Great poll.

I think New England would be 6-5. I think they've got a lot of talent, but by Week 8, Randy Moss would be sick and tired of the conservative play calling, and he would be jogging through routes. Similarly, Tom Brady's starting job would be in jeopardy due to his rebellious audibles in situations where, for example, he sees 10 on the line, 3 receivers completely uncovered, and Solari calling a run. Herm doesn't tolerate rebellion.

As for the Chiefs, I went with 9-2. Cro to Bowe would be the biggest thing since Tinker to Evers to Chance, and Bowe would be fresh off a Tonight Show appearance. The Chiefs defense is more talented than the Patriots' defense so they would be doing better, and the two losses would've come early before Belichick found two solid journeyman to solidify the right side of the offensive line.

Oh, and we'd be looking good next year since we got Miami's first-round pick next year for Trent Green.

Every facet in the front office that the Patriots have hired are leaps and bounds smarter than most staff's in the NFL. IMO, this is what has seperated them compared to other organizations. As we all know; It starts at the core.

Rainman said something very profound..Randy Moss would not be working hard for Herm and Brady would be handcuffed. Herm would be telling Brady ''this is how we always did it in Tampa with Trent Dilfer, and in NY with Chad''

Bill Belichek would retire immediately to keep his name remembered for winning and spy games. Herm would be out of a job because Kraft would fire him immediately.

If we had their staff everyone would have already gone apeshit and jumped off the wagon when LJ and TG got traded in the offseason, that's how they do business.

And once again Zouk defends Herm....even though Belichick won a Superbowl with a pretty untalented Pats team against the Rams.

Maroney is to injury prone so NE would have no run game I say 5-6 and If Bill were to work his magic I think we are t 8-3.

So why did he lose the year before if he just wins automatically?

Maybe that team looked untalented to you because you were judging Brady as a 6th round QB at that time and not as a top 5 to ever play the game QB. People at the time thought guys like Vrabel and Troy Brown weren't talented - but they were wrong.

Belichick is a great great coach. But people who think you can coach your way around an offensive line that gets beat every play are just wrong. I would have been patient with Belichick in Cleveland and I'm patient with Herm here.

I still think you are related to Herm.

I vote with the pats 8-3 kc 7-4 crowd for the same reasons as outlined in the first couple of posts. I do think it is comical though to speculate on what Herm would do with a historically elite offense

The Pats players would have completely revolted against Herm. Either he would have turned over the ship or they would have all given up.

I agree that the Chiefs would have moved TG and LJ in the offseason. I also think they would be a lot better off right now and easily in control of the AFCW.

I'd say half the coaches in this league NOT in the AFCW would have the Chiefs in first in the division right now.

If Herm went to NE, I think that would be very similar to Tony Dungy when he went from Tampa to Indy.

I don't think Herm would be stupid enough to not let Tom Brady do his thing? Unless Im wrong. But, Manning and Moore pretty much saved Dungy.

You have to think to right? Herm would be in a great situation there. Any coach in that type of situation would just let things be the way they are before they got there, and just let the superstar perform and do his thing.

We saw that with Marty too? He went to SD, and let Tomlinson do his thing? He didn't exactly handcuff the offense?

I don't think it would make that much of a difference? NE has 10x better overall talent then we do, so I think they'd be like a 9-2.

On the other hand, if Belicheck came here, I think it would make a huge difference? Different situation all together. You wouldn't be seeing poor clock management, or bad game management skills?

You would be seeing better game planning and philsophies. Better team morale. You would be seeing better game making decisions, better halftime adjustments, better execution and prepared from the team, better discipline from the team. That 3-4 extra wins right there. I say the Chiefs would be 7-4, 8-3?
