Rolle accuses official of using disrespectful language
BALTIMORE -- The NFL is looking into an accusation made by Baltimore Ravens (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=bal) cornerback Samari Rolle (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=4305) that an official called him a "boy" during Monday's night's 27-24 loss to New England.

"The refs called me a boy. No. 110 called me a boy," Rolle said in the locker room after the game. "I will be calling my agent in the morning and sending my complaint. I have a wife and three kids. Don't call me a boy. Don't call me a boy on the field during a game because I said, 'You've never played football before.' "

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Tuesday the league is looking in to the situation.

No. 110 is head linesman Phil McKinnely, a former player for three NFL teams during the 1970s and '80s. McKinnely, who played collegiately at UCLA, is black, as is Rolle.

The Ravens were demonstrative after the game about the officiating, especially on the final drive that led to Tom Brady (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5228)'s pass to Jabar Gaffney (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5919) for the winning touchdown with 44 seconds left. After the touchdown, set up by a fourth-down defensive holding call on Rolle, linebacker Bart Scott (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6165) was penalized 15 yards for complaining and another 15 yards for throwing the official's flag.

"In a game of this magnitude, you don't make that kind of call," Rolle said. "Let the players decide the outcome of the game. You can crown them champions now. I'm not taking anything away from them. They are a great team. They're not asking the refs to help them, but it's just an empty feeling."

ESPN.com's Mike Sando and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Seriously, though, would he really call him "boy" in the bigoted way? Or just as a casual reference to a younger man, similar to "son"?

The best parts of the article:

Rolle: Don't call me a boy on the field during a game because I said, 'You've never played football before.' "

No. 110 is head linesman Phil McKinnely, a former player for three NFL teams during the 1970s and '80s.

All the ref probably said was, "Yes I did play. I used to play back when you were just a boy."

Ticky tack or not, the holding call on 4th was legit, and (I believe) the player held was the intended receiver. Sucks that that made such a difference in the game, though.

One day, Little Porkchop went to the store. Along the way, he met a man who was selling magic beans. Well, he took the money he was supposed to use for milk and bought the beans. Then, the man said, "Hoa ha!! I tricked your ass, boy!! These aren't magic beans!!!" So Little Porkchop took out his razor and slit the man's throat right there on the spot.

I can't beat them if you don't let me get away with holding, so just let us play the game with no rules you damn refs! We said before the game that this was our superbowl, and the refs decided to actually try to make us play fair to win it..

Would you like a towel Rolle, 'cause I don't think that a handkerchief can soak up all of your tears.

How is it "racist" if a white guy calls a black guy boy? Ive heard tons of racial slurs for blacks including porch-monkey, spear-chucker, jungle-bunny, yard-ape, cotton-picker, jiggaboo, moon-cricket, spade, spook, coon, pickaninny, and of course ******. But I never knew calling a black man simply "boy" was being racist. :hmmm:

I thought I did. I didnt know "boy" was a racial slur though. Thats kind of stupid to be offended by "boy". If someone called me boy I would be happy...it would make me feel younger. :)

I have read a lot of history, just never was interested in southern race relations I guess. Ive always been more interested in world history, mainly WW2 and Vietnam.

If you need to brush up on the subject, you can always travel to Washington DC and, as you encounter black men, smile and refer them as "boy", Mr. MTG#10.

You'll probably get a quick, graduate level course on race relations.

It is a classic double standard though. As with the case of the "n" word. If you are white you can't say it. End of story.
