Don't look now but some team out in Sacramento is looking for a new arena and keeps getting rejected.

What a joke. What a waste of an arena.

Sorry about that, gentlemen. The thing is, the general populace really doesn't know much about hockey. It really isn't a southern thing.

For example, we had a deal in their first or second year here where somebody scored a hat trick. Anyhow, a few fans threw their hats on the ice and the security guards escorted them out of the building.

Yeah, I'm sure Oklahoma Citys arena was a waste of an arena too when they built it with no major league tennant in town...

Garth Brooks sold more tickets for 9 days than a hockey team could in a season. When the Stanley Cup finals are on Outdoor Life Network you know the sport has hit rock bottom. The only thing that keeps it running are the diehards in cold areas where hockey is life. Hockey will fail in Kansas City...

I call BS on that. Hockey on tv sucks but in person its the best sport to watch.

The fan base will be a few hundred die hards and lots of people will go to a couple games through the season hoping to see a good fight and not the actual hockey game. If we got the Penguins like the original plan was I think it could have taken off just because of Crosby, but we will more than likely get a losing team without any star players so no one will care. We'll sell out the games with the Blues but thats about it...

LOL, that would be ironic. The added bonus is that everyone who saved their Kansas City Kings gear could pull it out of mothballs.

Every team has star players on the roster now - it's what's killed the game, all the friggin expansion

Yep. We have a junior league team here in Topeka and I look forward to going to those games as much as Chiefs games. It's a blast, and it's cheap.

Junior league? A rich ladies' hockey team?

The Nashville news is a couple of weeks old, at least.
We are in the top spot for an expansion team, right now, with Vegas. Is it good for the league? Probably not. But I simply want the NHL here.

We don't even need a tenant for it to be worth it.

They shouldn't be expanding....if anything they should cut a few teams.

It's exciting to watch in person. Extremely fast and violent game. There are some guys playing hockey who would make excellent linebackers and safeties, I think.

Are they fast enough for the NFL? No skates allowed in the NFL.

I bet NBA will expand as well. You know they arent going to leave the Seattle market open. Plus with new arenas in KC and soon to be in Louisville & Las Vegas, they will jump somewhere.

I think so. Wasn't there a big time NFL player who was also a skater, Mr. Skip Towne? I seem to recall a story about how this person attributed his good footwork to skating.

hockey looks like soccer on skates.

Besides the smaller playing area, no out of bounds, more action, more scoring chances, more goals scored, nets that don't have to be half the width of the field, more physical play, hand-eye coordination as well as skating ability, and big games that come down to actually playing the game and not shootouts... you might be on to something.
