View Full Version : Why do we in Kansas City put up with it?

I have lived in the midwest my entire life. The lack of success that we have had here in the midwest in sports is simply embarrassing. We are nobodies on a national scale. The last meaningful championship we have had was Kansas basketball in 1988. That is almost twenty years ago!!! Before that, it was 1985. The Royals and Chiefs, our professional sports teams have not really even sniffed a championship in this time. The closest the Chiefs have come was the AFC championship. . . one time. The Chiefs have not had more than 3 playoff wins since 1988. The Royals have not even made the playoffs. Not only have they not made the playoffs, they have been one of the most futile organizations in professional sports since 2000. I know that they are headed in the right directions, but we as fans just sat by as we were made a minor league team to the rest of the MLB.

This city is simply waiting for a winner. Once we have an organization that is a legitimate contender, built with young home grown stars, this city will simply EXPLODE in support. Dayton Moore is making a lot of good things happen for the Royals. However, until the royals are in the playoffs, you can't really feel like Kansas City is a professional sports town on a national scene. I really doubt the Chiefs getting embarrassed every 5 years in the playoffs gets us any national respect.

I am going to lose half my audience here by my next confession, but I am a huge Jayhawk fan. I am so desperate for ANY kind of championship to come to the area that I cheered for the Tigers just so this area can have some kind of positive sports experience.

As a Chiefs fan, we are inundated in bad draft after bad draft. The superstars of the team are guys you have a hard time cheering for (allen and LJ). We have not drafted a guy that can be the franchise QB. We are stuck watching the most boring brand of football to ever grace high definition tv. Not only is it boring, we are terrible playing it.

We all know the Chiefs need new leadership from the top down, but there is nothing we can do about it (unless we finally take a real united stand).

I have said all this to come to this one singular point. We have dealt with a myriad of disappointments and lack of success for twenty years now. When traveling for my job, my city is mocked for its terrible jokes of teams. I have been a fan, but my fanhood for the kansas city chiefs might have taken its final blow. HOW DARE HERM AND CARL TELL US TO GET OVER IT. THEY SAY WE ARE SPOILED!! HOW THE EFFING HELL ARE WE SPOILED. WE ARE NOT NEW ENGLAND. WE ARE NOT NEW YORK! THIS CITY HAS HAD NOTHING TO CHEER FOR. YOU NEED TO SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND REBUILD THIS TEAM INTO SOMETHING. YOU SHOULD HOPE AND PRAY THE FANS CONTINUE TO SUPPORT YOU THROUGH IT! HOW DARE YOU INSULT US!!!!! CARL, DON'T ACT LIKE YOU HAVE GIVEN THE FANS ANYTHING. YES, WE WERE BAD IN THE 80'S and BETTER IN THE 90's, BUT ITS PARITY IN PRO FOOTBALL. YOU DID NOT DO IT. IT WAS INEVITABLE.

It is time for us to care. We have become so complacent with mediocrity that these losers have been able to keep their jobs for terms well beyond their effectiveness. If this was a "real" sports city, this would not be tolerated by the fans or media. It is time for us to become a real sports city. Let's whine and complain like we feel like we deserve better. I am tired of this CRAP.

Some people would consider Nebraska and Oklahoma part of the Midwest.

Well said

Total BS to just get over it, I can not. I am not about to think of forgiving Herm for his debatchery of a 41-7 loss at Infested field. I am not going to "get over it", for 18 years of less than adiquate football and play off experience. I am not going to get over it untill we win a Super Bowl. FU Herm & Carl Peterson FU.

I know. The week before the Big 12 championship game on 810 sports: "I just don't see how Oklahoma can hold Missouri under 4 td's...". WTF, this city doesn't ever deserve a major college or pro sports title.
