DAD SELLS 'GUITAR HERO III' ON EBAY AFTER CATCHING SON SMOKING POT
Monday, December 17, 2007
After catching his teenage son smoking pot, a father sold his son's coveted "Guitar Hero III" video game on eBay as punishment, and made over $9,000, PC World reported.
The father, a Canadian school teacher, spent two weeks searching for the rare video game for the Nintendo Wii gaming system before buying it for his son.
But later, after coming home from work early, he caught his son smoking reefer in the backyard with his "delinquent friends," PC World reported.
• Click here to view the eBay listing page.
In the eBay listing page, the man said he put the video game up for sale to punish his son and discourage him from smoking dope.
"I know smoking a joint isn't the end of the world, but if you can convince me that he deserves the gift, then I will end the auction," it was reported.
The father sold the game to an Australian buyer for $9,100.01, PC World reported.

Is Guitar Hero III really selling for thousands of dollars?

On Ebay, it's hard telling. Remember the “Beanie Baby” craze? You wouldn’t believe some of the $$$ those stupid little stuffed toys were bringing.

Truly amazing how many thought it too harsh a punishment, and yet the same people wonder why young people are having some much trouble with life.

The kid's still getting a gift. Dad said he'd buy him a Barbie video game or something.

Think how much skunk weed that kid can buy when he's dipping $9k from his dad's sock drawer....

I hope the dad buy's himself a nice prize and rubs it in. Good for him.

I think a lot of times people will bid up a joke auction that ends up on digg or someplace else on the web just to be funny. I doubt that he collects this amount of money.

The Australian might be some rich guy though who can't find that game for the Wii... I heard someone at Breast Buy the other weekend ask for it, and the guy said they were totally out for a long time, but looking around on the web it's no problem to find for the other systems.

edit: people on amazon's listings are selling them for the wii starting at $180 which seems to be about double the price. I wonder why the Wii one is so hard to find.

Thump...Thump...thump......thump.

Standing in the rain, with his head hung low
Couldnt get a ticket, it was a sold out show
Heard the roar of the crowd, he could picture the scene
Put his ear to the wall, then like a distant scream

He heard one guitar, just blew him away
He saw stars in his eyes, and the very next day
Bought a beat up six string in a secondhand store
Didnt know how to play it, but he knew for sure

That one guitar, felt good in his hands
Didnt take long, to understand
Just one guitar, slung way down low
Was one way ticket, only one way to go

So he started rockin
Aint never gonna stop
Gotta keep on rockin
Someday hes gonna make it to the top

And be a juke box hero, got stars in his eyes
Hes a juke box hero
He took one guitar, juke box hero, stars in his eyes
Juke box hero, hell come alive tonight

In a town without a name, in a heavy downpour
Thought he passed his own shadow, by the backstage door
Like a trip through the past, to that day in the rain
And that one guitar made his whole life change

Now he needs to keep rockin
He just cant stop
Gotta keep on rockin
That boy has got to stay on top

And be a juke box hero, got stars in his eyes
Hes a juke box hero, got stars in his eyes
Yeah, juke box hero, got stars in his eyes
With that one guitar hell come alive
Come alive tonight

Yeah, hes gotta keep rockin
He just cant stop
Gotta keep on rockin
That boy has got to stay on top

And be a juke box hero, got stars in his eyes
Hes a juke box hero, got stars in his eyes
Just one guitar, put stars in his eyes
Hes just a juke box hero, aah aah aah
Juke box hero, juke box hero, hes got stars in his eyes
Stars in his eyes

Still makes for a funny story though.

I remember when the Wii or the Xbox or whatever came out, people had bids on there of like $10,000, and the media would just report it. But I'm betting it was usually the guy's roommate and the guy across the hall upping the bids.

This story is funny though. I hope the dad buys something nice with whatever cash he did get. :D

I was hanging out with MDRB (Motorcycle Drag Racing Buddy) checking out the illicit drag racing scene in KC one weekend night multiple summers ago when he introduced me to a friend of his. He was an older guy, or older than me at least, riding a Honda CBR 600 F2, which is a little unusual for the older crowd.
After we moved on I asked MDRB what the deal was and he told me the story. Seems this guy bought that bike for his sons 18th birthday. Nice guy, I thought. Problem was the kid started skipping school and his grades tanked because he was out all night racing around with his buddies. So dad took the bike away, added a nitrous kit to it and started hanging out with his sons drag racing pals. ROFL When MDRB pointed out his son to me I could instantly tell by the disgusted look on his face as his dad rode off on what used to be his bike.
