Ok, I have been haggling with my hosting company for the last few months... trying to get a decent deal on a new server. Here is what I have finally been able to come up with...

The new server will have 4GB of RAM (double what we have now), 3 times the hard drive space and more importantly... the hard drive will be SATA which should make a huge difference.

ALSO... we have the new software but the hardware has been holding us back.

The only bad news is that it is going to cost me an extra $100 a month more than I already pay...

...so if anyone feels generous and wants to help out the cause... feel free to donate...

I have added a DONATE button to the bottom of the page in "full featured" mode and I believe there already is one in the upper left in "at work" mode.
I have decided to kidnap this thread for issue's since the upgrade is done.

New Features:
-Casino
-Arcade
-Ignore Thread, you can now ignore individual threads
-News Ticker
-2 new templates that move the sub forums to the bottom of the thread listing page
-Membermap

Known Issues

-Search is currently disabled (Search still freezes up the BB)
-The show avatar button in the friends list seems to only work for that viewing
-The new cookies are acting up, remember me and sometime the templates get confused - Current solution is to clear your cookies for the planet
-Try to make the look of the ignore the same as in the past, with that user disappearing. (current fix is a Firefox extension here (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=182835))

-Signatures are currently showing for thread starters in At Work mode. (fixed morphius)
-you can't rep a thread starter. (partially fixed DaFace)
-Change the "collapse" buttons to red (Fixed morphius)
-Thread Starter borders all goofed (Fixed morphius)
-No Quick Links at the top of the page (Fixed morphius)
-the link to the forum added back between Previous Thread and Next Thread at the bottom of the thread view page (Fixed morphius)
-Since you can't attach files to the thread starter I removed the option to even try. (morphius)

Thanks Kyle for getting this worked out. I'll pledge to donate as soon as we make the switch. Forgive me for wanting to see results first. :p

On a side note, I know the topic has come up quite a few times in the past, but could we put some sort of advertising on the site somewhere to help pay for the fees? I'm sure the majority of people would be willing to put up with ads in order to have a more reliable system.

I wonder if it's possible to set up an automatic payment once a month or something like that. It would only take 20 people donating $5 per month to offset the added costs of this thing, and I'd be more than happy to do that.

Yeah, but I was thinking something more along the lines of something through PayPal. I know they take a chunk out of it, but you'll burn $.41 each month on postage anyway.

EDIT: Looks like it's possible, but it has to be set up on Kyle's end if I'm understanding it correctly.

I will loudly proclaim that I've been one of the biggest complainers about the server. I will also loudly proclaim that I will gladly help out once everything gets done.

However, I do see your point. I'd imagine that there are others who will not likely be donating that have complained for quite a while.

Smed,
You should have aired your grievances with me. You told me to prepare enough for 20 people @ $15 per - or whatever the actual amount was. This was for Thanksgiving 2006 so I don't remember for sure. I brought 2 turkeys, 8 racks of ribs, 10 lbs of jambalaya, 3 pies and who knows what else. I didn't make money on that tailgate. I covered my costs. You offered to buy for all attendees. I'm not looking to screw anybody - EVER. You ordered the food and I offered you the leftovers. It's not like I can take that back to the store. $15 a head for that kind of spread is doing it for free. I have no guilt about it. I wish you had discussed it with me rather than trash me about it in public.

I had nothing to do with ChiefsPlanet at the time nor do I now. So don't let that impact your decision to donate to ChiefsPlanet.

Though phase one I think we are just going to copy over what we have now, and then do the upgrade or actually make the current stuff archives and start with a fresh database with just the users copied over.
Might be a good idea to get some feedback from the community on what they want.:hmmm:

If I can decipher everything correctly between him and Phil...

For Thanksgiving a couple years ago, smed offered to pay for all the WPI people who wanted to stop by for a good meal if Phil would prepare it. Phil guessed it would cost around $15 per person to prepare said meal. smed told him to prepare for 20, or $300 total. Only 4 (or maybe three) people showed up, so smed's pissy that Phil still asked for $300, even though Phil had to pay for all the food anyway.

Is that close to accurate?

Close. There were more people than that but everybody had eaten at their respective family lunch prior. The ribs were eaten but almost nothing else. In fact, in a fit of obnoxiousness and protest I ate half a pumpkin pie myself because nobody else would. Smed, I put those other two pies in the freezer and they were donated to a food pantry where they went to two needy families for their Christmas meal.

I sent a couple racks of ribs home with Smed and he has claimed they were the best he's ever had in several posts here. I don't get the rant. It was his party, I just brought everything. I'm guessing a caterer who does this for a living would have charged more than double.

Sorry this sullied the thread.

Question Kyle,
Everytime I refresh or open a new page my computer locks up momentarily while the banners load up. Is this something to do with the banners and the old server, or something to do with my machine and/or security settings? Either way it's annoying as hell. I have a pentium D 800.

Just try not to click on the same ad over and over. If you do it can be counted as fraud, and then none of the clicks count, especially if the advertiser is running a 3rd party tracking tool, which most large ones are.

Duly noted.

When I first started my website, (http://www.yourdailyremedy.com) I had the brilliant idea of clicking on a couple of my ads just to "test them out." I then received a friendly little note from Google informing me of the "possible fraudulant clicks." Oops.
