Firing Solari = 1 step forward.
Hiring Fassel = 10 steps back.

As long as Carl and Herman ****ing Edwards remain, any perceived step forward is only an illusion.

Quoted for truth.

I watched a lot of Giant games, and he used to cover his mouth when he'd call running plays. run run pass punt.

He was the Ravens OC..and he got fired because Billick needed a fall guy for why the offense sucked...

Fassel replaced Reeves. For an offensive minded coach he chose the worst QBs. I believe Young hired Ernie Accorsi as GM the same year.

The Giants strength was always defense -- Accorsi was great. He retired in 2006. They brought in good players -- Strahan, Armstead, Tiki, Toomer, Hilliard, Shockey... can't remember. The Giants problems were with the quarterbacks -- Dave Brown, Danny Kannel, Graham and Kerry Collins. The Giants shut out the Vikings high powered offense -- Culpepper and Moss 41-0 to win the NFC Conference playoff. They won a couple of playoff games... this is all from memory.

The Giants got off to a good start under Fassel. He also took the Giants to the Super Bowl in 2001. They had strong individual performances on offense. Collins had some success. But in the end Fassel lost two out of three playoff games. In 2003 the Giants finished 4-12 and Fassel was fired.

So, Mr. Demension 2112, I'm sure you were watching a re-run of the Jets run run punt game -- you weren't watching a Giants game. Tiki Barber and either Amani or Hilliard or both broke records playing for Fassel.

j/k... :D

Dude, you're basing all that on 2000?

That fluke 2nd half of the season where he almost got committed was the only bright spot in his career.

Tiki Barber was not utilized as a full time back until much later in his career, he was a 3rd down back when he was first drafted. he would ram Ron Dayne into the line while hiding his face so nobody would know he'd be calling running plays.

Do you remember that playoff game against Minnesota where the Giants blew the lead and lost? it was the game they were fighting on the sidelines amongst each other. Strahan, Garnes.

He sucked.

He was the qb or wr coach before he ''got promoted''. and he sucked anyway, so what difference does it make?

I used to feel sorry for Fassel. Don't get me wrong -- Fassel needed to go. ...

Starting 2001 --The NY press started a brutal campaign against Fassel. The headlines alone could push a sane person over the edge.

I'll never forget 2003, Fassel was in tears at the podium in his last press conference to the press. They literally broke the man down.

I have tremendous human feelings, what can I say?

Well, that's very impressive. but why hasn't he been offered any jobs in the NFL by anybody other than his ''friend'' Brian Billick?

I think I know why.

Honestly, The NY press broke the man down -- I vaguely remember a columnist for the Times doing a piece on Fassel's state of mind after he left.

To find it, I would have to research the Times sports archives.
