Veteran Green still an option at quarterback

The Dolphins have expressed an interest in bringing back oft-injured quarterback Trent Green, according to the player's agent.

Jim Steiner said he hoped to talk more with Dolphins vice president of football operations Bill Parcells.

"We haven't really established anything yet," Steiner said. "We touched on it a little bit. Trent has an impeccable reputation, and Bill knows him, not well, but he knows his reputation and what type of guy he is.

"He is a tremendous supporter of Trent's and there is interest there. It's how Trent deals with it, whether he moves forward with football or the broadcasting side."

Green will be 38 before next season begins, and is coming off two seasons in which serious concussions forced him to miss 19 of 32 games.

Green has been doing broadcast work for ESPN and the NFL Network throughout the playoffs.

Quarterback Cleo Lemon is a free agent and not expected to be high on the re-signing priority list. After an undistinguished rookie season, John Beck will be under the tutelage of new quarterbacks coach David Lee.

Parcells has a history of relying on veteran quarterbacks. He acquired then-35-year-old Vinny Testaverde to lead the Jets to a 12-4 record and the AFC Championship Game in 1998.

Green, who struggled in his five starts before suffering a season-ending concussion at the start of the Texans game Oct. 7, can make $3.73 million this season, so he would most likely be asked to take a pay cut.

During the final week of the season, Green said he would "love" to return next season but first he needed clearance from the doctors, to research the long-term effects of concussions and then discuss the matter with his family and the Dolphins before reaching a decision.

Don't do it Trent. No amount of money is worth becoming a blubbering idiot.

Hey Trent, many announcers have gotten sacked in the booth, but none have left with a concussion .

The guy needs to hang it up before he ends up slobbering like a mastiff from all the blunt force trauma to his head. Seriously, He has enough money at this point along with really nothing to gain and everything to lose for him and his family if he comes back.

I think his arm is more of a reason why he shouldn't come back than his head is. Concussion or no concussion there's too many throws he can't make.

Maybe they will sign him up with the intentions of like keeping him on as a third stringer and use him to help mentor the younger guys. That wouldn't be such a bad thing for him, as long as he remembers that a quarterback doesn't block defensive lineman, should the rare chance occur he actually gets into a game.

This must all be related to $$ and whether Green is owed money, or has to repay money. First Green said he would come back, now a few weeks later the team is saying they want him. Both are posturing.

I think this is correct. Trent needs one of these.

Aikman had 9 concussions throughout his career, I think that had a part in him retiring.

Trent was on the NFL network this past weekend. He looked more natural than most of their full time employees. Another year of football and it may be more like.......

I know of a team in the midwest that could use a nice upgrade at QB coach. Whadda ya say there, Trent?
