FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Ellis Johnson is leaving Arkansas after less than a month as the Razorbacks' defensive coordinator to join the staff at South Carolina.

Johnson was introduced as Bobby Petrino's defensive coordinator at Arkansas on Jan. 4, but Petrino announced Thursday that Johnson is leaving. Johnson spent the past four seasons as defensive coordinator at Mississippi State.

Johnson is a native of Winnsboro, S.C.

It's become completely out of control. I really think it's a result of what big money college football has become in recent years. Since they can't spend money and compete for athletes, they spend money and compete for coaches. I'm sure this stuff has gone on some in the past, but I can't remember it ever being quite this common.
