Ellis:
at the mouth of the New York Harbor, was at one time the main entry facility for immigrants entering the United States from January 1, 1892 until November 12, 1954. Ellis is wholly in the possession of the Federal government as a part of Statue of Liberty National Monument and is under the jurisdiction of the US National Park Service. Ellis is situated in New York City and Jersey City, New Jersey.
Ellis was the subject of a border dispute between New York State and New Jersey (see below). According to the United States Census Bureau, Ellis, which was largely artificially created through the landfill process, has an official land area of 129,619 square meters, or 32 acres, more than 83 percent of which lies in the city of Jersey City. The natural portion Ellis, lying in New York City, is 21,458 square meters (5.3 acres), and is completely surrounded by the artificially created portion. For New York State tax purposes it is assessed as Manhattan Block 1, Lot 201. Since 1998, it also has a tax number assigned by the state of New Jersey.

Long:
is an island in southeast New York, USA. Long is also a major suburb of New York City, and was one of the first modern suburbs in the United States.
True to its name, Long is much longer than Long is wide, jutting out some 118 miles (190 km) from New York Harbor, and varies in width between 12 - 23 miles (19 - 37 km) between the southern Atlantic coast and Long Island Sound.[1] Long has an area of 1,401 square miles (3,629 km²), making Long the largest island in the continental United States and the 149th largest island in the world.[1] Long is connected to the mainland by several bridges and tunnels through New York City.
Long had a population of 7,448,618 as of the 2000 census,[1] with the population estimated at 7,559,372 as of July 1, 2006, making Long the most populated island in any U.S. state or territory. Long is also the 17th most populous island in the world, ahead of Ireland, Jamaica and the Japanese island of Hokkaidō[citation needed]. Long’s population density is 5,470 people per square mile (2,110 per km²).
