OK, but that still did not answer my question 1 bit. lol. They usually wont let something like that through. At least not ABC/Espn/Disney.

He is now, but I can't help but remember when they tried to fire him. It was the early days of ESPN, and the fans came to his aid.

Why did they want to fire him?

They thought his goofy nick names that he was hanging on the players was out of line. They also hated the loud "back, back, back, etc." home run calls.
He was to announcing, what Casius Clay was to boxing. He broke the status quo and made people, mainly management, uncomfortable.
They quickly found out the fans liked him, and he got brassier than ever.

And now pre- and post-game shows are nearly unwatchable. All they do is yell and try to make each other laugh.

Agreed, he has gotten old, fat and crabby like a lot of us. ESPN in general has become almost unwatchable for me.
ABC/Disney ruined it IMO.

I thought it was funny. Sure, he needed to lay off, I mean a minute and a half rant was a bit long, but who knows what he was seeing. I've been frustrated at people who should know better doing stupid stuff.

Having worked in TV for a number of years, I can honestly say this is how most talent acts one you get inside about market 50. And management always lets them get by with it.

If someone on the other side of the camera ever went off like that (outside the EP or Director) they'd be fired on the spot.

I sure don't miss this part of things, that's for sure.

I mostly miss the drunken after parties....
