When Bob Knight arrived in Lubbock, he was greeted by a loud reception at United Spirit Arena.

There will be far less pomp and circumstance as he steps aside.

Knight informed Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers Monday morning that he has resigned, effective immediately.

Knight son, Pat, the head coach designate, will take over for the remainder of the season.

Texas Tech was always just a means to an end for him, IMO.

I guess 900 is all that mattered... or is there something behind the curtains he might be in trouble for??? Striking a baby for crying during his dinner at Golden Corral?

His image has never been too peachy but he has really done nothing but tarnish it the past several years. He should have gave it up after the Indian debacle. Good riddance.

Striking a baby at the Golden Corral... Classic!

No. Anderson underbid Knight for the O'Reilly sponsorship. A battery charge for any player in Columbia.

It sucks. His legacy will be he played for 900. I like him as a coach. I thought he did some nice things as TT coach.

I think the game passed him by. Today's game is full of pampered street-ball athletes. It's hard to win without any big players anymore. The big names aren't going to want to play for a coach who doesn't give any players special treatment. I think knowing that his departure just meant a chance for his son to get an oppurtunity helped make his decision. It's not in Bob Knight's nature to go out in the sun without any criticism. Greatest coach I've ever seen.

I disagree. There's a reason that his players line up behind him.

His legacy will be 3 NCAA titles. I find it pretty remarkable that after 30 years in the game, he graduated 98% of his players.

I suspect this might be health related. I really don't see Knight as a quitter unless there's a real reason to. He may be a hot-headed ass at times, but he's a very competitive person.

You are probably right, but some ESPN will try to tell us that he is a penis. I have a lot of respect for him. His teams could compete with anyone with far inferior talent.

I really do admire this guy. Also one of the greatest coaches ever to enter a press room :D

The game will miss Bobby Knight in some way or another

So I'm watching NFL Network earlier tonight and one of the questions to the two man panel was what NFL coach reminds you of Bob Knight?

Jim Mora answers-Jon Gruden

Other dude--Herm Edwards,and I was like WTF???

Good riddance to Knight. The only person that's a big enough of an a-hole to get into a fight at a salad bar with his University President.

The guy made a fortune from the sport, but spent decades condescending to media, shaking only the opposing head-coaches hand after a game, and was in many ways simply a jerk.

I could give a rats ass if he knew how to X & O, he is a tool of an individual that for the most part was never called out for being an ass to those who helped make him famous

Bellicheck reminds me of a younger Knight - someone who spits in the face of, and shows no appreciation for the pampered, priveleged life they lead.
