This is about DTV's HD DVR's what the best way to get one? I dont really wanna pay all that money for them. Is there a way to get some kind of promotional upgrade or something? If i can get it for very cheap i don't mind paying for it, but i really don't want to spend something like 300 bucks on one.

If anyone knows anything, that would be great.

Are you currently a Directv customer? If so, I'm not sure what the deal is. If not, I think it costs you $99 for the HD-DVR. PM me your name and phone number and I can have our sales guy call you.

Say Skip, I got the HD DVR a few weeks back and paid $199 for it. They are calling it leased. Did I pay $199 for the priviledge to lease it or is this a mistake?

Nope, it's a lease. Even if you buy it at Best Buy. Nice, huh? The only time you own it is when it breaks it seems.

I'll need to order a second HD DVR as we're adding a second HDTV. Will I be able to get it for $99, or is that deal only for first timers?

First timers I think. They don't give breaks to long time customers. Neither does Dish.

You can find some nice used hd dvr's on ebay that are owned by the person.

I think I would get the serial number and call Directv to verify it is owned before bidding on it.

I figured as much.

Skip, any idea if Directv is ever going to have local channels in Joplin? Dish has had them for 3 or 4 years now.
I'd rather have Directv, but the no locals thing is a deal killer for me.

I'm an existing customer, and I got them to give me the HD DVR for $99 and then they gave me a $10 bill credit for 12 months. The catch was I had to extend for 2 more years.

The DirecTv dvr's are still a little buggy compared to the Tivo ones, but the Tivo ones are pretty much history, so it's time to move on. I have the newest HD DVR, the HR-21 and it's Ok overall. I do miss the dual buffers, but other than that it's OK.

I'll give that a shot - thanks.

Also, I still have my old HD DVR - the one that wouldn't work with the dish to pick up my locals in HD. I could just hook that up and go to the UHF antenna for locals. I won't get CBS in hi-def, but in that room, I don't care.

I really don't know but I doubt it. It is really a small market. Directv is allocating their available transponder space to HD.

Is there still a waiting line for them? I called 6 months ago and was told that I would have to wait.

I think I'll just wait until I get my new TV.

Skip,

Do you know of a way to transfer everything from an existing DVR to an HD-DVR? Or am I just screwed?

They want 199 bucks and a 24 month commitment. I dont mind the commitment, but i am cool on the 199 for the reciever. Go go mininova.org

Ain't it amazing how they treat customers differently? We call it CSR roulette. If you don't like the answer you get, call back until you do.
