View Full Version : How many hours a week do you work?

El Jefe
02-08-2008, 02:15 PM
Ok you can either brag or gripe about how many hours you work a week.
Additionally if you are going to school or any training you can include those hours into your total.

I started some schooling and am working full time and between work and school I am running 65 hours a week, not including travel time or anything like that. Someone has to be buring the candle at both ends.
Lastly I will be doing this for about 7 months, so it could get interesting.

45-50 But since I'm on "salary" I'm only getting paid for 40. Besides that lately I'm having to cover for my co-workers (who work about 35 hrs a week).

So it's all going to change real soon. I have Symantec Enterprise Vault training in Chicago the end of this month. After that I will look into other opportunities that I might be able to take advantage of with my new training. :)

I work the normal 40 at my job. If there is an election then it changes and can increase up to 60 hours a week. Plus throw in the fact that I'm going to school online. So that can add anywhere from 10-25 hours a week.

I used to work 40.

Now....I work a lot more hours, with less than 40 per week billable. I work a contract job as work available and will be sub teaching on the side in my "down time" to fund the reason I work so many unpaid hours. I also volunteer on several local community projects and have an additional responsibility in that regard, am remodeling a house, chasing a 2 year old and making room for a spring arrival.

I work adout 65 hours a week but 8-10 hours are spent giving you guys a hard time on the planet. In the spring/ summer my workload increases as I have a rock yard where I sell flagstone and boulders as a side business.

Flooring business is the same way. The past two months most of my time at work is spent on The Planet or various baseball websites getting ready for my fantasy drafts. On the plus side, I have the store really clean and neat.

So to answer the thread question, I am at work about 45 hours a week but currently I probably only spend about 25 of those hours doing anything productive.

C'mon spring, I needs me some customers!

Depends on the week. Our workload is pretty variable here. But most of the time I'm somewhere between 40 and 45.

I put in anywhere from 60-85, depending on how busy we are and what you can call "work". I spend a lot of time online buying materials and buying/selling inventory. I also spend a lot of time with the administrative needs of my business and bidding/selling jobs.

I get my hands dirty about 30 hours a week, the rest of the time is spent doing stuff my employees consider easy.

I think you win with the most hours, how long have you been putting in that many hours?

Usually you get these people that are working 2 jobs for 70hrs a week, where are you folks at?

I just started getting really busy in the past 6 months or so.

I used to travel as a computer geek. I had a 118 billable hour week once upon a time. That was a lot of work. Fortunately my travel time was billable and I was paid by the hour.

They probably don't spend much time on Chiefs Planet.

When I was a much younger man I worked 60-70 hours a week in the restaurant business. I didn't make much money but I always had money cause I never had time to spend my pay. They had me on a real intersting pay structure. Anything past 45 hours I got paid half as much per hour as the first 45 hours.

I average 70 to 80 hours a week over the course of a year.
January to March 60 hours a week.
April, May, September, October, November 80 hours a week.
June, July, August, December, 90-100 hours in a week (7 days a week)
average day 7:00 am to 9:00 pm
Mostly on my feet except between 2-4 in the Afternoon

66 right now, probably more leading up to May deadline.

50 is the standard, and the pay guarantee (I usually work all of them, but if I don't have to, I still get paid for the 50.)

Leading up to deadlines, usually about 4 months of 60-70, then a month or two of up to 80. I get paid for every hour of OT, and often double time.

Any more than that and I'm useless anyway, so I might as well not be there.

I'm salaried so I get paid no matter how many hours I work. I used to work a shitload of hours but realized it wasn't doing anyone any good. I found that cutting out meetings and focusing on what needs to be done I can get as much done in 40-45.

I leave working Saturday and go straight to football. Leave football and go back to work. Start about 7:00 AM weekdays and I'm not usually done until 9:00 or 10:00 at night. Most of my bids and writing is done even later than that.

I've heard it as, "The best part of owning your own business is that you only have to work half-days....and you get to pick which 12 hours they are."

I'm not complaining, though. The only ways to get rich in this country are to start your own business, buy real estate, run a 4.3 40, or show the world your perfect breasts on film. I can't do #3 and #4, and #2 requires starting capital.
