Corner back?

The Chiefs are expected to release cornerback Ty Law instead of paying him a $6.5 million base salary in 2008, which would put Law back onto the free agent market. Law, 33, spent the last two seasons in Kansas City and did not miss a game, recording six interceptions over that span. Some observers felt the Chiefs' desire to play more man coverage was not the best fit for Law, although Law, who believes he has 2-3 solid seasons left in him, might contest that. The 2008 campaign will mark Law's 14th in the NFL, and considering that the Patriots could be looking for corners, his potential return to Foxborough would add a dash of spice to the offseason. Assuming Law is released, those close to him say he would be open to the possibility of a return - if the price is right.

Law can still play. He would probably be a good fit again in the Pats system again.

I agree, but I'm sure that they'd prefer to pay their money to Samuel.

Law can still play, even if he is 15 yrds off the reciver. He would probably be a good fit again in the Pats system again.

I don't understand why we would just CUT Law.

I am a bit ignorant on how a trade vs. a cut affects the salary cap but if there is no difference, it seems to me that we would be stupid to simply cut him.

I am sure we could get at least a 4th for the guy... no?

IIRC with a trade the team the player goes to assumes their salary cap burden. I may be misunderstanding that though?!

I know the Chiefs want to trade him if possible. However, I don't see a team picking him up for much if we end up having to cut him any time soon to save cap space.

nobody would want to take on his current salary.

Unless he comes back, as a backupCB/or Safety....at a salary that's 1/3 of what he "suppose" to get this year....he's gone. And should be. :grr:

The Chiefs need to release him before June 1 to get the max cap relief. Other teams know this and will just wait.

I don't think he's got the speed or change of direction any more to even make the FS move.

I agree, he is done as a CB, specificaly at his salary. Cut him and save.
