View Full Version : Most Best Movie Robot Of All Times!!!

Since it's the political season and all, I thought a thread about robots might be in order. So I started thinking, "What robot thread concept would make the most sense?". Well, I didn't have an answer because there really aren't any. So instead, I started this fun and exciting new thread which I like to call, "Most Best Movie Robot Of All Times!!!" (with apologies to Muhammed Ali for stealing his line).

I'm thinking the Transformer robots might get a lot of votes, but there's also R2D2 who, although kind of wimpy, did save some people. However, I'm going to have to go with the Terminator Series 800 model as a very impressive and mega, hard-to-kill, kick ass robot.

What say you, Planeteers? MechaGodzilla? V-Ger? Sonny? The one with the vacuum cleaner arms in Lost in Space? "You have 20 seconds to comply."

If not...

Not to be argumentative, Mr. Adept Havelock, but "Klaatu Barada Nikto" was not the name of that robot. I think his name was "Mort" or "Dork" or something like that.

Klaatu Barada Nikto were the words that bug-eyed lady was supposed to tell the robot to make him stop destroying Earth. I think "Klattu" was actually the real name of the spooky alien guy with the rather unhealthy fixation on the little boy. I have no idea what "Barada Nikto" means, though.

I know you're not being argumentative. It's cool. :)

His name was "Gort", Mr. FAX. I posted the phrase because that's what I always associate with him, that's all.

I still would give the edge to Colossus...but I don't know if it really qualifies as a "Robot".

Heh. Quite certain, yes. After my initial post, I saw Stewie had already posted his name so I removed "Gort from "The Day the Earth Stood Still", and replaced it with my musings about the legendary "Colossus".

THIS IS THE VOICE OF COLOSSUS. THIS IS THE VOICE OF GUARDIAN. WE ARE ONE.

The internets tell me Barada is Russian for Beard (and a river in Syria) and Nikto is Russian for no one.

Google also informs me they are all three names of creatures in Star Wars, so I guess they've got that going for them.

Kind of hard not to go with R2D2.

I always thought it would be great if they subtitled his beeps. After all, throughout the last three movies, he knows everything. And seems to have attitude problem. Just think of the possibilities.

"Yeah, sure you don't remember me, you old fart. Lying part of the Jedi Code now, or you has your brain just been baking in damned desert too long?"

or

"Great, give junior the lightsaber. Remember how well that worked out with daddy? No? Well, if this one starts carving up gradeschoolers, don't blame me. And I don't want to hear any of that 'chosen one' crap, either."

or

"You specialized in gay sex translation before they wiped your memory."

or

"She's your sister, you pervert!"

or

"TELL YOUR ASSHOLE FATHER TO STOP SHOOTING AT ME!"

I had no idea. I wonder who thought this was a good idea. Keanu Reeves as Klaatu? I crack jokes about too many remakes but this is one of those movies that is truly such a classic they probably shouldn't mess with it.
