i LOVE cromarte as a Corner and i think he will be a sick sick sick player in the NFL.

I also think he would fit really well into our roster of D backs. Page and pollard all play quick and physical and i think Cromarte would be an amazing addition.

Yes they are quick. They are def not 4.3 4.4 quick but watching them play they always are quick to the ball just like cromarte.

And if your looking Cromarte up its Rodgers-Cromartie.

Also :

Bernard Pollard 2006 Combine:

40 Yrd Dash: 4.57
20 Yrd Dash: 2.67
10 Yrd Dash: 1.58

Jarrad Page:

40 Yrd Dash: 4.63
20 Yrd Dash: 2.72
10 Yrd Dash: 1.59

Per nfldraftscout.com

Cromartie (per nfl.com "official times") No cone drill times up yet but :

40 Yrd Dash: 4.33

Rodgers-Cromartie is the one Corner I want this team to take, but we'll have no chance at drafting him unless we trade down.

those 40 times are SLOOOOOOOW as mollasses in january for a DB. I don't care if they ARE safeties, the true impact safeties in this league run 4.3-4.4 40's...

I sure hope youre kidding otherwise the Ravens better cut Ed Reeds ass "quickly" because he ran a slow as molasses 4.57. :)

it's funny: ed reed may have timed slow, but he sure doesn't play it. our two safeties play much slower than their 40 times.

you know, football speed. it isn't measured by 40 times (chad effin' johnson ran a 4.57 or so... and he's pretty damned FOOTBALL fast)

I happen to like our young safeties and dont think they play particularly slow.

Yes i know what football speed is but youre the one who put the emphasis on the 40 time regarding safeties. ;)

oh, I know... I'm on no sleep, sue me.

their 40 speeds, as far as I'm concerned, don't speak for their football speed. sure, they're not the slowest in the world. but when you're a young safety that sometimes makes mistakes, speed can erase mistakes. our two young pups simply don't have that speed, and have been caught out of position due to their inexperience. which SUCKS in the cover two. you need your safeties to be absolutely prepared in the cover two, and they didn't get the job done at times last year.

don't get me wrong. I like page and pollard. however, truly elite defenses have that difference-maker at safety. most of those difference-makers have great football speed. if we get a chance to upgrade either safety spot, I say we should take it.

whew. how did that get into an argument over whether our safeties are good enough?

...long story short--pollard was a second round pick, but hasn't really shown us anything. he absolutely MUST show us something this year or fall into our 'same ol' sh*t' second round 'bust' bin

What "argument"?

As for the comment on "elite defenses", they also have solid DTs who dont leave the secondary on an island. *also very important in the Cover 2

The safeties don't have to be burners in the Co2 but they do have to be cerebral. Quick to react.

Ours aren't. Hell, we put Wesley back in to cover deep...

Personally i attribute that to age/lack of experience. (Both 23). I think they'll get much better.

For a HC as committed to rebuilding with youth as Herm was you've got to really fail to impress to put Greg "I think I'm a LB but I'm really a Safety" Wesley back out there...

2 starting safeties dont play 100% of every game.

You also didn't see Herm/Dungy benching their Lynch-pin late in the 4th.

That's when your CB's, QB's, DE's, etc. prove what they're made of. And we're talking late in they year here when the playoffs have been gone for weeks and it's all about building something for next year.

Just seemed to me that Herm was willing to put a lot of youth out there early and once the season went down he looked at who played well and who didn't and cut his losses...

To note though is that Lynch didnt really make much noise until around his 3rd or 4th year. Also was the fact that Page was indeed banged up for a good part of the year.

I'd argue he was a Wesley until 3 or 4. Always a hard hitting guy and good vs. the run but average in coverage.

Who isn't? Good players tough it out. It's a violent game with huge men trying to hurt you. You'll always be hurt to some degree...

Wesley came out making tackles but imo his downfall was always looking to be on an espn highlight reel.

Kind of a shortsided statement imo, players play hurt but it does effect their play to a certain degree.
