The Chiefs continued their rebuilding process by telling four more veteran players they would be released, sources said.

One, cornerback Ty Law, was a starter last season. Two, linebacker Kendrell Bell and defensive tackle James Reed, are former starters while the fourth player, tight end Jason Dunn, was once a key reserve.

All of the players are over 30 except Bell, who turns 30 in July.

The Chiefs have either released or will release six veterans who had 2008 contracts. Offensive tackle John Welbourn and wide receiver Eddie Kennison, both also over 30, were previously released.

no surprises really, except for reed maybe, looks like we are considering drafting a DT.

The Bell experiment was a smashing success.

Even the Law deal looks, with the benefit of hindsight, as eh. At best.

I do like this part of The Plan. One year too late but definitely the right idea. They need to gut this pig completely.

King Carl and Herm have both admitted that they thought they could duct tape the team together for one more run last year and were wrong.

We can't cut all of our veterans, but there are certainly a couple other players who need to get some "gone".

If we're going to suck this year (and all signs point to "yes"), the team might as well jettison all the dead weight.

Well, much like politicians, I don't expect Gun to say "Oh, yea, that guy. He was a bum. I should have never lobbied for him. Sorry." Neither job is done by people who admit mistakes often or well.

From KCCHIEFS.com.....on Kendrell Bell

2006
Kansas City (2005-06): Has seen action in 32 games (28 starts), registering 125 tackles (95 solo), 2.5 sacks (-11.0 yards), one forced fumble, one pass defensed and 11 QB pressures … Registered two tackles (one solo) in one postseason game.

Why is it that I cant remember a single tackle listed above????:shake:

I think Law can still play. Our defense requires good safety play and we had two that were inconsistent at best... I think they made our corners look significantly worse than they really are.

Maybe....but either Arrowhead has the most slippery turf known to man....or Ty Law has a severe vertigo problem. I recall him on his ass more than making plays.

Maybe just me....

Wasn't a knock on him that he would fall down if he got beat??

Yep...reminds me of basketball players....when they miss a dunk they act like they hurt something....or soccer players when they lose the ball they fake an injury like they pulled a groin or something.

Everyone has their pride I guess (except maybe Ryan Leaf).

Herm's first year in free agency proved to be a failure.

It is not a failure to get a 16 game starter on a playoff team for veteran minimum salary (James Reed). Now that Turk, Tank, and Boone are here, he's no longer needed. And Ty Law was always supposed to be a 2 year deal. The salaries and option bonuses spiked up after year 2.

These players were stopgaps. Parcells used to call them "hold the fort" guys. You get them so that you can dump Eric Warfields and Ryan Simses, and then you get rid of them when you have younger players to replace them.

We certainly won't miss Reed or Bell.
Dunn and Law aren't easily replaced.
Unless the Chiefs have their Free Agency wits about them.

I suspect the Chiefs will give Michael Allan a chance to take over for Dunn.
Not sure what we're planning to do to replace Law.

We have Brackenridge, who should figure into the competition, but that's about where it ends.

Dunn was a gimp the past 2-3 seasons. bad back bad knees. He really lost his initial push\strength\leverage with the back this past season.

It signal a change in our philosophy also. Having to depend on the TE's to help with our tackle situation the past couple of seasons sucks. Maybe herm is serious about restocking the line with "grade a meat", and Dunn doesn't fit in their plans no more.

Man I can't count the number of retards who kept saying that Bell's "learning a new system", or "he's out of position", or the "coaches know more" - BS. The guy was damaged goods from the start and anyone who didn't see that was ****ING retarded.
