I know there's not many if any UK fans on here but just thought I'd let you know whats going on here in Kentucky.

Patrick Patterson's sensational freshman season has come to an abrupt end. The three-time Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week and Kentucky's second-leading scorer will miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his left ankle.

Team doctors sent Patterson for x-rays Friday morning that revealed the injury. The 6-foot-9, 219-pounder was placed in a cast and will be out eight weeks.

The loss of Patterson is a crushing blow to UK's resurgence and NCAA Tournament hopes. The Cats have won nine of their past 10 games on the strength of its fantastic trio of Patterson, Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford but have few other options in the post. Sophomore Perry Stevenson, freshman A.J. Stewart and junior Jared Carter will likely be counted on to at least lessen the impact of Patterson's absence.

Patterson was running neck and neck with Florida's Nick Calathes for SEC Freshman of the Year after averaging 16.4 points and 7.7 rebounds. He was shooting 57.4 percent from the field, 77.5 percent from the free throw line, had led UK in rebounding 13 times and turned in six double doubles.

The injury is just the latest medical setback for the Cats, who were without Derrick Jasper for the first 10 games of the season and have only had Jodie Meeks available for 11 of their 26 games.

Patterson and UK coach Billy Gillispie will discuss the injury at a 4:45 p.m. press conference Friday afternoon. Stay tuned to CatsPause.com for more on this developing story.
