BRONCO BUSTED FOR COCAINE
Well, well, well. Broncos defensive tackle Marcus Thomas has been arrested (http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/030308/spo_253092901.shtml). For cocaine possession.

Thomas was busted on Saturday in Florida. Is anyone really surprised?
Thomas had first-round talent but his history of off-field issues caused him to drop to the fourth round of the 2007 draft. But Coach Kevlar, the man who burned a third-rounder on Maurice Clarett, was willing to take a chance.

Why shouldn't he? Kevlar, more commonly known as Mike Shanahan, has by all appearances a lifetime contract in Denver, and thus can take chances that others might fear could get them fired.

But Shanahan would have been wise to heed our old friend Dante Aligherei's creed -- "Once a turd, always a turd." (It would be a fitting possibility for Dante's autobiography.) Thomas was dismissed from the Florida Gators football team in November 2006 after violating the terms of his reinstatement from a drug suspension.

His lawyer contends that he is innocent, and we suspect that the next step for Thomas will be a visit with the official team polygraph machine.

Yes, because no other football programs have any issues. Need I remind you that, unlike some other programs who issue slaps on the wrist or do nothing at all, Marcus was suspended and then dismissed from the team.

Not surprising. One of the reasons I thought Denver's draft was iffy.

OH MY GOD this was awesome.

I was there with htis as a handful of Bronco supporters assured us that Thomas deserved a second chance, that being surrounded by veterans should help him stay out of trouble, and that they were confident he could turn it around.

Just glorious.

Typical Shanahan draft pick.

I bet Travis Henry's lawyer is on the phone with him right now working out an excuse. And Shanahan is saying that he's innocent and that he wouldn't tolerate that kind of behavior on his team unless some lawyer can get the guy off on a technicality.

I'm sure he's innocent, and the dope got into his pocket because he was in the same room as some other people who do, but he doesn't actually use.

Hard to argue. Cut him. He's not worth it. Being drafted at all was the last chance he deserved.

Is a Columbian drug lord a partial owner of the Broncos?

Between all of the drugs and shootings, you almost have to wonder if they work in the sanitation business.

So disappointing... as I mentioned on the OM, these guys are mid round "bargains" for a reason.

Yeah.

I hate to generalize this to society, but anyone who wants to "eliminate poverty" in our country needs to realize that some people are simply destined to be poor. They just aren't bright enough to make the right decisions, and even if you had them a million bucks they're going to screw it up.

On the bright side, though, at least he didn't leave any unconscious bodies outside an IHOP. :D

Yeah.

That and the definition of poverty is subjective. The people in this country who are considered poor live better than 99.9% of everyone in the history of humanity has.

Yeah, if he's getting in trouble for the same crap that got him in trouble before he's obviously not changed anything.....

Then again, since he plays for the enemy I hope he sticks around and shares his powder with a few other players on the team. :)

Marcus Thomas-DL- Broncos Mar. 3 - 1:57 pm et

The Broncos released a statement on DT Marcus Thomas Monday, acknowledging that they're aware of his Saturday arrest for drug possession.

"The owner/operator of the vehicle has since admitted the cocaine was his and no cocaine was ever found on Marcus Thomas," the statement reads. "Within hours of his release, Marcus had a test which confirmed that there was no cocaine in his system. The Broncos are hopeful that no charges will be filed, and we are monitoring the situation as it goes forward."

The "it wasn't mine" excuse is a cop-out. He may have very well gotten lucky THIS TIME, but it's obvious what kind of crowd he's running with. Ticking time bomb...

They got arrested before they could bump some lines.

IIRC, he agreed at the time he was signed to undergo a voluntary testing regimen because he was a risk.

Which makes it just that much more stupid to be rolling with someone who's got it on him...

The Donks always have an excuse when a guy gets arrested. Either the drugs weren't his, or he just inhaled the smoke second hand, or he passed a lie detector.

What bad luck these guys must have, to keep getting in trouble for things they didn't do.

Marcus is lucky that the other guy is taking the rap... and it's a plus that his system was clean. Take this as a warning... you don't get many "do over" options.

Thomas would really have to screw up for them to cut him though... he has R1 talent and they're paying low dollars ($3M on the contract as a whole). So, that's cheap... which is why they'll let li'l things slide.

Everybody is wanting to pay Allen so much. A couple DUI's in a few months time is worse than holding a little yayo to me.
