I don't feel real comfortable doing this but I DO feel prayers help. I respect a lot of you on here and value your opinions and knowledge. Today I went to a Hepatologist specialist and was told without a liver transplant I have 3-5 years to live. I was diagnosed with hepatitis c 5 years ago and life has been a real struggle ever since. I have ascities ( swelling and build up of fluid in the stomach) actually my whole body swole lol :( I gained 20 lbs in 2 days then thank God lost 15 of it through water pills.. Anyways I am raising a 10 year old son and a 12 year old daughter and I am so scared what will happen to them when im gone. So at least pray for them if not me I would sure appreciate it. Thank you in advance, I know many of you have good hearts and that is cool.

Best of luck in your struggle.

I can see by your priorities(concerns) that you're a good family man.

Medical breakthroughs pop up every day and you never know when that next one will be in your neighborhood of troubles. I don't know much about your particular affliction, but I know a few people who have had liver transplants. A lot of them have come from a small piece (1/4) I think of a healthy donors and they're thriving today.

2 friends fathers had liver transplants like these, in the late 1980s, early 1990s and are strong as a bull, working construction type jobs today. There is hope.

Id really consider becoming a donor if its only 1/4.

I'm far from a doctor, but I think the liver is the only organ besides skin that will regenerate/repair itself.

Anyway, I won't pretend to know the answers or try to give conflict to things your doctors have likely already told you...but there's reason for hope.

Stay right with the man, and your family and everything will work out.

That is awesome of you to even offer, I have family members who have done the same...You are a very good person :). I'm hoping things work out , but it's a lil scary having someone put a time limit on your life.

Hey man. That is terrible. I can't imagine what it woudl be like. I hav no idea whatsoever.

Prayers I can do. You got it.

My grandma died of liver failure, but it was after she lived a very long full life. I'll be praying for the transplant, but if it doesn't happen, Iowanian is right. Stay right with the man and things will work out.

Best of luck bud.

A woman who was like a second mother to me had hepatitis-C for many years and after medications, it went into remission. She died from cancer two weeks ago, so if not for that, she'd still be here. A liver transplant may not be your sole option. Check into it as much as you can. God bless and may healing be yours.

Max,

A very close friend of mine has a 1 year old daughter who had liver problems in the very recent past. She had cysts on her liver that kept filling up with fluid & wouldn't go away. They operated on her a few months ago & took almost 70% of her liver. She is doing well now. I believe the doctors told my friend that his daughter's liver should regenerate itself to approx. 80-85% of it's original size by the time she would graduate high school. I know that your circumstances are not the same, but I thought you might want to hear a positive outcome about a similar problem.

May God send you an angel to guide & protect you through this period of your life. You will be in my thoughts & I will pray for you & your families' health and well-being!

MadMax,

As someone living with failed kidneys my heart goes out to you and your family. I send all my best thoughts and I will even offer up a prayer (as a Deist I hope it still helps). I also send your family love and sympathy as I think I have some idea what you and they are going through. Please, dear creator let this fine young dad find a transplant donor.

Prayers sent man. As many have already stated, that sucks and not many can fully understand what your going through. Life is a fragile thing, no one is guranteed tomorrow. Try not to let your mind play games with you and dont let the pessimism take over, when there is a will there is a way. You will come out of this thing just great.

Prayers are headed your way for you and your family. I can see the hardest part for you seems to be thinking of how your family will survive without you. Rest assured that they will be OK. But sad. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Get a will made out. Stay positive. Attitude has much to do with the healing process. Hopefully a transplant is headed your way soon. Keep us posted. Good Luck.

Sorry to hear that man - I wish you the best

My best advice is to seek advice from as many doctors as you can, until you find one who can help you. Don't just listen to one give you bad news and give up.

3-5 years..........is that in people years or liver years?

Ok maybe not the best time for jokes, but they do say laughter can add years to your life. Let's hope your liver has a sense of humor.

Seriously though, the liver is one of the most common organs found in people. I'm sure you'll get one.

Good luck.

You have time to find a live donor. My b-i-l passed away a month ago. He had severe liver problems and was given the same type of message. The problem was that they did not talk about a live transplant until way too late.

If you can find a match the donor gives you 40% of their liver and they have a relatively short recovery time. My b-i-l had great success with the liver but the post operative infections took him down. He was weak from extended problems with his liver.

Prayers are going up for you and I wish you God's speed with your recovery.
