So I was just fantasizing about hopping over to KC for draft day. I live in Philly so I probably won't be making the 17+ hour long drive there (Props to Google Maps for this info). I was wondering though, are people in KC Kansas and KC Missouri really big rivals? Are there crazy turf wars? I hadn't realize that they were just separated by a border between states. I mean as a child, I had originally thought that KC was in Kansas, but couldn't really care less when I found out that there were 2 and my beloved Chiefs were in Missouri. I've lived in PA my entire life so it wasn't that big of a deal. So yeah, any big differences between the two cities? Does everyone from both cities bond together on every Sunday to root for the Chiefs?

Good question. I have wondered about these things myself.

The two sides are separated by a six foot high fence with razor wire on top of it, if that tells you anything.

When it comes to KC professional sports teams it's really one big city. No different than people from the suburbs claiming the team as their own.

While KCK technically isn't a suburb of KCMO, the state line is about as relevant as a city limit for most people. Lots of folks live in one state and work in the other. In parts of the city you don't even know you've crossed the state line except for the street signs.

There's obviously still a big Kansas/Missouri rivalry in college sports. And there are a few issues where the state line does make a difference ... for example, if KCK had riverboat casinos and they were equal in size and quality to those in KCMO, a lot of Kansans would patronize those instead of going to Missouri to gamble. Some tax issues too (I think there were a lot of discussions here a few years ago about some kind of bi-state tax issue?).

( In my best british accent ) Well it's true ya know, the people from Missouri just suck and the people from Kansas are great.

OK, seriously, it's OK, the people on both sides are fine, the only bad blood is the MU-KU fued.

I'm sure you have Green Friday's where you are (as I do, and we have spoken on this subject 'our hate for the Eagles') but I never really noticed that big of a rivalry cept when I was at Kansas State.

No one was welcome from the state to the north...

KC Kansas is pretty small, and there is not much there. Everything you hear about "Kansas City" is generally on the Missouri side. Kansas City MO itself has less than 450,000 residents, but the metro area has over 2 million. BUT, the metro area here is pretty big. Olathe is considered the metro, and is a 45 minute drive from my house. My brother and I both live in Kansas City limits, yet live 30 miles away from each other.

Comparing the 2 Kansas Cities is like comparing St. Louis and East St. Louis. There is no comparision.
For the metro there are more KU fans than MU fans, and the further south west you go, (closer to Lawrence), the more KU fans there are, while the more north east you go the more MU fans there are.

Ah, let me correct myself. Village West is in KC Kansas http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Village_West

But, there are very few houses around it and kind of reminds you of those outlet malls in the middle of nowhere. It is in KC limits, but is seperated from downtown KCK with 10 miles of farmland.

Yeah, it's funny with the Eagles. There are 2 huge rivals so close (Redskins and Giants)... they almost seem to not hate each other as much. I think the Giants and Eagles fans can get along because they're all a bunch of ignorant assholes....

Dude, I was driving on 69S the other day in OP and saw a VW Beetle fall into one of those craters.

The main difference is that Missourians are dumb hillbillies and the Kansans are our agrarian brothers.

I thought the same until I moved to Oklahoma City. KC drivers are like professional nascar racers compared to what I have to deal with up here. Every single day, everybody is going about 50 mph in all lanes where you just can't get around them. Nobody merges from the fast lane, nobody looks before they change lanes and it takes about 1 hour to drive 30 miles if the traffic is dense. Also people stop for no reason on the highways too in OKC, there is absolutely no reasoning, no on ramp where a bunch of cars are entering, no accident, no construction all I can see is that people are scared to drive with someone in the lane next to them so they all stop. It's ridiculous!!
