My Grandpa Jenson died this morning.

He died, basically, of natural causes. His breathing was really bad and he had been generally going downhill for a while since his stroke.

He was 81 and really smart and sensible. He was an engineer and played football. He built my fort in my backyard when I was 3rd grade.

At first, it wasn't so bad since I saw it coming. But it's kinda just hit hard

It's no fun losing a grandparent, especially one to whom you were close.

It always hits hard.

People tell you to try and prepare for loved ones dying. It's impossible I think. You're mourning is not for your loved one, it's for yourself. At least I'm pretty sure, considering your religious convictions. You just can't prepare for that kind of personal loss until it happens. May God see you through it as quickly and as painlessly as possible.

Sorry to hear it.

Hopefully you listed and can recall the good times and lessons he taught you and carry on his traditions.

Sorry to hear this. Stay tough, and with time and support things generally do get better.

That has to help in some way. By keeping memories, and sharing them with your family(children some day) you'll keep him living in some way.

In some ways, remember you're fortunate to have had this many years....and a quality relationship.

Sorry for the loss of your grand father. Personally I don't remember any of my grandfathers. They died when I was too young to recall them. I hope you have alot of great memories .

Sorry for your loss. When I lost my Grandpa it hit pretty hard as well. As corny as it sounds...you really don't know what you've got till it's gone.

Jenson

Sorry to hear about that. I lost my Dad shortly after he turned 81 - that was nearly 6 years ago. I miss him every single day.

May you and your family find peace.

Sorry for your loss. Hopefully he'll show up in your dreams. Try this, when you go to sleep tonight, think about him, hopefully, he'll visit you and in his way, let you know he's thinking about you, and is okay. My brother passed at a much too young age, I still have dreams with him in them and I wake up with a smile.

Sorry to hear about it Jenson. My last set of Grandparents died a year apart in 90 and 91. Not hardly a day goes by where I don't think about them. Hang in there.

Sounds like he was a great Grand Pa to you and you can't ask for more than that. Be thankful for him being in your life and you can pay him back by trying to emulate him. I'm sorry for your loss.

Just saw this...sorry to hear about your loss. I lost both my remaining Grandparents within six months of each other a few years back. It was pretty unsettling and I wasn't even super close with them anymore. Like everyone is saying...remember the good times.

Thanks everyone. I just got back from the wake. I had no idea his body was going to be so hard really and have so much makeup. Man, it was really weird, like it was a wax statue, not the person that was moving and talking and living just a few days ago.

Sorry for your loss, Jenson. Unfortunately, that's the way of things. I lost the last of my grandparents in 2001. Remember the times you shared with them and the things they taught you, and they will live on with you.
