The Tigers are up to #2 in this week's poll after their sweep of Baylor. Mizzou is now 18-2 on the year and are led by arguably the best pitching staff in the nation. The top pitcher is Aaron Crow, the best bet to go #1 overall in this year's draft.

Tim Jamieson has put together one hell of a program over the past few years.

I've had Aaron's dad, Kevin, in a couple of my classes. Pretty good guy, works for the Dept. of Labor in Kansas. I guess he's got one at KU, too. He's pretty proud of his boy, and has been giving him some pretty sound advice, like "put your signing bonus in the bank and never touch it".

And he let his son go to Mizzou?

You should make the whole family move to Belton!

Are these games ever televized on any of the Fox sports channels? Sounds like this will be the only baseball team I root for who won't completely suck this year.

Mercifully, April is just around the corner.

Yes, they're on Fox Sports fairly often.

Also, the B12 tournament and College World Series games will all be televised.

Unlike kU, Mizzou is successful in numerous sports. Football hit #1 in the country, wrestling did too, and baseball is one spot away from being the top team in the country.

It's a great time to be a tiger!

And yet they have the most hilarious basketball program in the country and ponied up millions of dollars for a state of the art basketball facility and have nothing to show for it and probably won't for another 10 years.

Pitching wins in the postseason, and no one in the country can touch Mizzou's pitching staff.

Still, I would guess that Mizzou and WSU will each host regionals this year.

True, but Missouri finished 2nd in the league last year and this year's team is much stronger. It will be a long season, but we've got the talent to finish ahead of the Horns and the Huskers.

Here's an interesting quote from BA's Aaron Fitt:

Q: Brandon from Omaha asks:
With Nebraska and Missouri both going another weekend in the Big 12 without a loss (though there was an unusual tie), they sit atop the conference. Will the title be determined by the end of the year series between the 2 schools and, if so, who wins?

A: Aaron Fitt: I think Missouri will have the league title wrapped up before that. Nebraska's a solid club, but I don't think it's the best or even the second-best team in that league.

Cool. How'd your football team do? :DDon't worry I expect them to pin a loss on the Tiggers in Lincoln this fall.
A Pelini defense isn't even in the same universe as a Cosgrove defense. And the offense should be better than last year. Which didn't do a hell of a lot of good since the defense didn't have a clue as to how to defend a spread offense. I believe Pelini eats the spread offense for lunch. :D

The only teams that Pelini faced last year that ran a spread offense remotely close to Missouri were Florida, Kentucky, and Arkansas. Who scored 24, 43, and 50 (39 ppg) Also there is obviously A LOT more talent at LSU. I will admit that the two games that scare me the most next season are the road games in Lincoln and Austin. Simply because there is potentially a lot of talent there if Pelini can raise it to it's full potential, which I think he will. Don't say he will eat our offense alive though because they were saying the same thing last year going into the game.

Also this baseball team is going to be amazing this year. Some of the players played for my High School team at Blue Springs (Nick Tepesch, Austin Holt, and T.J Schieber) I can definitely see this team playing in Omaha deep into June this year. Go Tigers.

It seems like for the last 4-5 years the home team has won between Nebraska and Missouri. Cept for last year, historically for the most part, Missouri and Nebraska take baseball bats at each other.
The _Shirts certainly will be better. Shit just with Cosgrove gone and if they played with no defensive coaches whatsoever they'd probably improve 50 spots drawing defenses in the dirt. :cuss:

They're already talking about Tepesch being a top five pick in the 2010 draft, and he's mowing down batters as a freshman.

Yeah, There in Austin this weekend. Nebraska had played pretty good ball in Austin and Texas this year seems to be a little down. If the Huskers can win the series they'll be sitting decent. I certainly don't expect the Tigers to keep playing the way they are. Their pitching is good at the moment but so is the Huskers and the Huskers are a better hitting ball club.

The bullpen let them down this weekend. They blew saturdays game in the 9th and today they scored 4 runs in the top of the 8th after letting Tech tie it up in the 7th and then gave up 2 in the 8th and 6 in the 9th (walkoff grand slam). Although the freshmen relievers had a bad weekend, Aaron Crow did extend his scoreless inning streak to 33.2.

I'm pretty sure I've told this story -

My wife's step-sister's husband scored tix to the Nebraska-Iowa State game at Lincoln a few years back, the one that went to overtime. Great game, great seats (four rows back from the Husker bench). It was nearing the end of regulation, and Nebraska had it first and goal from the Cyclone four. Three straight incompletions later, the whole section was screaming. My step bro-in-law looked at me dumbfounded, and I said "West. Coast. Offense." All I hear is "F*CK THAT! F*CK CALLAHAN! RUN THE F*CKING BALL, YOU STUPID SONOFABITCH!!" I was splitting a side laughing so hard. (And on a side, Zac Taylor rolled out and got absolutely ROCKED by a linebacker. He took a few seconds, laying there prone, then got back up. Tough bastard; I thought they killed him.)

LINCOLN — One by one they have told tales of loss.

http://www.omaha.com/neo-images/photos/medium/040508kcdillard.jpg (javascript:enlargePhoto(259100))

Linebacker Phillip Dillard is one of several Nebraska players to report to camp lighter. Coaches want the players at weights that maximize their speed.

Matt Slauson and Phillip Dillard dumped a good 20 to 30 pounds apiece. Zach Potter and Barry Turner slimmed down. As did a number of other Nebraska football players who have reported starting spring practice at new weights.

It's been enough to make some wonder if first-year head coach Bo Pelini is pushing for an across-the-board downsizing of the Huskers of yore.

Not exactly, Pelini said Saturday. What it is, though, is getting players on a case-by-case basis to weights where they can best play the game.

"I don't care about how big they are or how small they are, as long as they're at the best weight for them and where they can run," Pelini said. "We evaluate that, we set weights and we tell them to get there.

"There's a misconception that you've got to be this big, huge guy to play this game. It's about explosiveness and athleticism, and the rest will come."

Plenty of pounds were shed in the Nebraska weight room and on the Hawks Center turf by the time winter conditioning was completed. New strength and conditioning coach James Dobson was left to carry out Pelini's instructions after taking over for Dave Kennedy in January.

"We want guys in shape," Pelini said. "If you can't run, you can't play. You can't play the game. This is testimony to the work we got done in the winter time and the commitment of our guys. It's a good sign."

Don't bother tracking past Pelini teams to find a trend. Sure, you might find some linebackers who go 225 pounds instead of 250, or some offensive linemen at 315 instead of 330.

Doesn't mean a thing, said NU assistant coach Mike Ekeler, who was with Pelini at both Louisiana State and Oklahoma. There was no initiative toward smaller players, it was just that the players played at a weight where they could move.

"I think he just likes his team fast," Ekeler said. "Fast and physical. That's Bo Pelini.

"It's about speed and you want to play where you're the fastest. What weight, within reason, are you the fastest at? And obviously if you're lighter, you're faster."

Three positions where some Huskers have slimmed down over the winter seem to be the offensive line, defensive line and linebacker.

Assistant coach Barney Cotton is getting the sleeker version of Slauson at right guard. He said he eventually wants to see a more svelte Jaivorio Burkes at right tackle. As with Pelini, however, Cotton said there is no blanket statement that would cover how he would like to see his linemen.

"Some teams do like them big and some teams do like them smaller," Cotton said. "I don't care how big or small, if they can move their feet. If you can move like heck at 340, my goodness be 340. But if you need to be 320 to do what you can do, then you better drop down. Or 320 might be 300."

The former staff wanted more pounds on both Potter and Turner, last season's starting defensive ends. They're both visibly lighter now than a year ago.

Also along the defensive front, tackles Ty Steinkuhler, Ndamukong Suh, Shukree Barfield and Kevin Dixon all are listed at lighter weights than last fall. Even though he's moving from defensive end to tackle, the new staff had Jared Crick go backwards 10 or 15 pounds to start the reshaping of his body.

I-back Quentin Castille is closer to 235 now. He was around 255.

Apparently, some pounds simply have been shed because some players put weight on through inactivity.

"Part of it with some of these guys is they had a long winter," said Cotton, pointing to an absence of bowl practices in December. "I'm not trying to say anything good, bad or otherwise, but they lost 15 opportunities to practice and therein probably put some extra pounds on that they really don't need. Plus, once you're so big, at what point is it the point of no return?"

Longtime NU strength and conditioning coach Boyd Epley said there occasionally are weight trends in both college and pro football. Miami was famous for speeding up some of its Hurricane defenses by moving defensive backs to linebacker and linebackers to the line. The Denver Broncos had some success with smaller, quicker offensive lines.

"It's not only coaching preference but a coach has to work with the material he has," said Epley, now director of coaching performance with the National Strength and Conditioning Association. "It's what is best for individual athletes, and I'd bet that's what is going on with Bo and his staff."

NU assistant coach Ron Brown said many Huskers answered the challenge in winter conditioning to alter their makeups. Brown said the staff challenged players with more cardiovascular work than usual in January and February, a time when programs often are bulking up.

Reading between the lines of what Brown says could lead one to determine that if fielding a lighter team isn't necessarily an aim of the new coaching staff, then fielding a tougher one clearly is.

"It was not just so they could get in great shape, it was because we wanted them to understand that we're going to invite pain and exhaustion into our life," Brown said. "We're going to embrace it. We're going to go after it, and we're not going to let fatigue get us down to our knees. We wouldn't let guys get down on their knees and walk around here acting like they're just ready to fall apart. When they're tired, they had to have some mind control and will to them.

"All that stuff brings out that tenacity, that relentless pursuit and that physical mentality that says, 'You know what, we can't control the final score but we are literally going to go out and dominate our opponent physically. We're going to outwork them, out-effort them and we're going to hit 'em.'"

Nebraska pounds Texas 14-4 :thumb:
Missouri beats Texas Tech 1-0.

If 14-4 is a pounding, what would you call the 31-12 beating Mizzou put on them Friday?

Not a good weekend so far. Hope they can get on track and take one today to somewhat salvage the weekend. I think a little of their woes can be traced to the inactivity of not playing any midweek games for 3 weeks. Hopefully all the shitty weather is finally clearing out.

Unlike kU, Mizzou is successful in numerous sports. Football hit #1 in the country, wrestling did too, and baseball is one spot away from being the top team in the country.

It's a great time to be a tiger!

:Poke: That # 2 fell ..... KU has a good sports program . In time, it will only get better with Perkins in charge.
