I thought we beat Villanova at home last year, or the year before, avenging the loss at Villanova? I thought we did because Frank Boal went to Villanova and was talking about it on the radio.

Wow, Davidson is up 15 on Wisconsin with under 10 minutes to go. I think if KU wins tonight, they will be playing Davidson on Sunday. Of course, first things first. This is the NCAA tourney and anything can happen. The way KU has been playing, however, is pretty darn good. If they continue that, they should win going away.

Well, I looked it up, and Kansas will not break the all-time record for easiest (on paper) path to the final four. The best they could hope for would be the 3rd-easiest path of all time, and the easiest in 7 years.

Michigan State holds the record for easiest path to the final four, set back in 2001. Before falling to Arizona in the final four, they defeated a 16 (Alabama State), 9 (Fresno State), 12 (Gonzaga), and 11 seed (Temple)

We have 2 teams tied for 2nd-easiest path:

The 1990 NCAA champion UNLV Running Rebels made it to the final four before winning it all by defeating a 16 (Ark. Little Rock), 8 (Ohio State), 12 (Ball State), and 11 seed (Loyola Marymount).

North Carolina also had an easier time in 1991 before losing to Kansas in the final four by defeating a 16 (Northeastern), 9 (Villanova), 12 (Eastern Michigan), and 10 seed (Temple).

Very true, but for me it's hard to get nervous about games versus teams like UNLV and Villanova that haven't done anything all season.

At least Villanova has a couple of wins versus high tournament seeds (Pitt and UConn; I refuse to give them Clemson because they did everything to lose that game)..... but they also went on a 5 game losing streak that would have been 7 had it not been for a 2 point win versus Seton Hall, and lost to Georgetown by 20 a couple of weeks ago.

I'm not saying Villanova can't win or that it won't be a tough game or that the players don't have to show up. It's just that I'm much more nervous about future games (Sunday, for starters) than tonight.

I'm looking ahead, but I hope the players aren't. ;)

The only reason I'd be nervous of a team that was 10 seeds lower than mine would be the fear that my team wasn't going to show up. That Kansas team had major transitional issues with their coach and even went on a losing streak towards the end of the season. They were inconsistent and not playing their best basketball.

This team has not shown up once all season, and it was a road game after 7 days off.

On top of that, 12 seeds have won a total of 1 Sweet Sixteen game ever (and is the lowest to ever do it)... 13 seeds have won 15 first round games.

Again, Villanova could win, any given Saturday night blah blah blah.... not that nervous. ;)

This team is as good as any that Roy had. They are very deep at the bigs as well as the guards. The one thing they do better than Roy's teams is that they play very tough, physical defense. Plus, this team knows how to attack zones. Roy's teams always had trouble. If you wanna know about teams before Roy's, you'll have to ask someone else. I don't remember much about those because I was just a kid during the Ted Owens and Larry Brown eras.

If you played NBA style seven game series the last 20 years KU would have about 3-4 championships. You need luck, the right draw, and good play to win the national title. It's amazing how many people refuse to accept that there is alot of luck in sports. some days you have it, some days you don't. it's not because you weren't playing hard. some times the shots fall. there is no divine destiny of who should win the championship. i think ur watching too much angels in the outfield

Yup, in baseball, NBA, and hockey its really damned hard to argue that the team standing at the end is not the best team. You dont luck your way through 2 or 3 series.

You do have to be a GOOD team to win 6 straight, but the best team can easily have an off night and be out.

Yep. You dont necessarily care if you are the best team, because 1) halfway through the year, we can pretty much eliminate everyone but 3 or 4 teams from being "the best", and 2) they dont hand out banners to the team that shows itself to be the best by objective measurement and popular opinion.

Part of the fun is to overcome all odds and be crowned champion in spite of not being the best. To be the David that toppled the Goliath. The Giants sure as hell were NOT the best team in the NFL last year by a long-shot, but I bet their fans dont care, because they beat the best on the "any given sunday" and have the trophy.

I'm too lazy to check. Have we had a year since 1985 where all 4 #1 seeds made it through?

I doubt you paid much attention while you grew up a Jayhawk fan. That '88 NC was a total miracle. OU had beaten us twice before we beat them in the NC game. We certainly can agree to disagree. Go to KUSports.com and spew your shit and you will get pummeled.
Go back to your room in the old folks home.

Alzheimers is a bitch.

I don't care what the regular season was - they won the championship.

Best team in the nation that year.

If Davidson wins this year - they deserve the title.

 Was it Dukie V or Billy PACCker?

It has never happened since we went to the 64 team field.

4 #1 seeds have never made it to the finals since they expanded the tournament.

Would have to ask our resident old fu*ker, skip, if there have been any before. He can give the history since 1800 - he lived it.

If that does happen, and UNC ends up beating Memphis, we will have a TON of retarded monkey brackets breaking 20-way ties for 1st in bracket pools all across the country.

haha come on. skippy is fun to listen to rant and yell at kids that run onto his lawn. i think we will finally agree to disagree. i still don't understand how winning six games in a row makes you the best team. it makes you deserve it, yes, but the best...no.

If a #15 seed happened to win it, would that make them the best?

I disagree - KU won the championship - ergo they are the best team.

If they decide to change they format of the tournament then the debate can change.

For now, the team that wins the tournament is the best team in the country.

Hopefully we can agree that we want KU to win this year.

I know there's a difference between the most talented team and the best team, and I think there can also be a difference between what the scoreboard says and the actual best team.

Kansas didn't even win their conference in '88. They were the best team over the course of a few weeks, and yes, when it mattered.. but IMO the 'best team' is the one with the best resume.

You don't put "I got an A on my final" on your resume, even though that's the one that matters.

Obviously, it doesn't matter... it's a good debate. I'm glad the tournament has worked out like it has this year... I like seeing the very best in the EE and FF, and that's what we're going to get

I didn't say this team was better than the 88 team. I said it was the best team since.

I think they will advance past the 16, past the 8 and past the 4.

Are they the best since '88 if they lose on Sunday? Or is the '03 team that lost the championship by 3 points to 'Cuse the second best?

Nice win KU fans. Good luck aganist Davidson. I'd be intruged to see how they'll match up aganist Curry. Dude is tough to defend, especially in the 2nd halves...

Again, I disagree. If that "A" says you are the best in the country at what you do - you highlight it on your resume.

This is not like saying I got an "A" on my math test. It's more like saying I proved my theory of .....

You won - you are the best at that pont in time.

How this guy isn't anywhere on NBA draft boards is beyond me. Guy has all the tools except he's kind of a pussy. He can't take much contact, but he's a guard so he'll be alright. I bet he can bench 185 pounds...Durant can't say that and he's averaging 20 a nite in the pros

God bless "Danny and the Miracles" but they were far from the best team that year. We used Stickboy (from Tulsa) for a point guard and Danny (as skinny as he was) was our "Big Man". We borrowed a Wichita State transfer from the football team, Clint Normore, as another guard. Does anyone know who Chris Piper is? That NC was truly a miracle.

I thought it was a great analogy, but actually it's flawed.

If the math final is comprehensive, even if you had a C- all semester, getting the best grade on the final goes a long way in proving you're the best student in the class. If you weren't paying attention all semester, you certainly can't fake it for one test.

And not that I need to finish the analogy, but if you're mediocre all season, winning your 'final' only means you won your final, not that the rest of the season was just a fluke. It's the other way around... the final was the fluke, because you're comparing one game to an entire season. It's exactly what you said, you're the best at that point in time. Not overall.

I don't think George Mason was one of the top 4 teams in the nation a couple of years ago, but they were certainly one of the hottest teams in the nation. It goes back to what BWillie said... peaking at the right time, a hot goalie, a cold shooting streak by an opponent, bats dying in the playoffs... stuff happens, and it's not always the best team that wins.
