Pitching change: Pinkel out, Maclin and Daniel in
STLTODAY.COM SPORTS

There's been a pitching change for today's Cardinals opener.

No, Adam Wainwright is fine -- he'll throw the real first pitch at 3:15 today.

But the Cardinals had to go to the bullpen for the ceremonial first pitch, and came up with quite a 1-2 punch.

Mizzou football coach Gary Pinkel originally was scheduled to throw the ceremonial first pitch, to honor the Tigers' breakthrough football season in 2007.

But Pinkel was delayed in returning from a trip to Florida, so Mizzou's current and future Heisman Trophy hopefuls will stand in for him.

Quarterback Chase Daniel and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin each will throw ceremonial first pitches before today's game.

Daniel was one of four Heisman finalists this past season, when Mizzou finished with a school-record 12 victories, a Cotton Bowl win and a No. 4 national ranking.

Maclin (Kirkwood High) was named first-team All-America as a freshman and is being mentioned as a Heisman candidate for next season

I hope Maclin doesn't bring any friends. The guy hangs with a sketchy crowd. Bring your vests Cards fans.

Just win baby.

Maclin's going to be a 1st round draft pick next year, he's not worried about a damn thing.

Cards up 5-1 in the 3rd - game is in a rain delay.

At least everyone got to see the Clydesdales and get 3 hours of beer in the stadium. Nice start for the Cards, lots of good young players in the OF.

I sure as hell hope they don't call it with us up by 4. :cuss:

This nearly enough to make me a KU fan.

A hate St Louis as much as the next Kansas Citian, but this is great for recruiting in that area.

I'll take all the Maclin's and Will Franklin's we can get our hands on.

I believe the game is just suspended until tomorrow. A new rule has recently be added for this.

According to a thread on the Cards scout.com BB, the game was postponed. Complete do-over.

That sucks.

With the Cardinals rotation I wouldn't be surprised if they offered Daniel the #2 starting spot.
