Chiefs | Mehlhaff receiving interest from team

J.J. Pesavento, of Next Level Scouting, reports Wisconsin PK Taylor Mehlhaff is receiving interest from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Yes.

Direckshun introduced the idea long ago. Seems smart, considering Taylor played for years in the upper Midwest, with all of the bad weather conditions, and was an accurate kicker.

Mehlhaff is from my area and he told local sports reporters that he had been contacted by the Chiefs before the combine and they informed the kicker that they "had three fifth round draft choices," and were very interested in him.

3 5ths
since when

That was probably the most confusing part of the interview. I am not sure what he was talking about.

I found Mehlhaff's exact quote.

"One of the teams that really likes me and that's going to have the most need for a kicker is the Kansas City Chiefs. They told me, in conversations, that they've got three picks in the 5th round. Now I don't know what that means, but I do know that everyone thinks of me as a draftable kicker, which could mean anything in the later rounds."

Jesus not this again. Our kickers always suck, don't waste a draft pick. Just bring in 4 of them and let them fight it out in training camp. OR, sign Nick Lowry

Maybe this time we'll actually go watch the guy in person and scout him and interview him.

Or we could take the ****er from UCLA.

We should probably NEVER draft a kicker again after what happened with Medlock. You guys and your doom and gloom..........

If we stop drafting positions we've failed at before, we're not gonna draft at all...

did you even read what that was in regard to? his HIGH SCHOOL kicking stats.

here's the proof that he REALLY sucks...

In 51 games at Wisconsin, Mehlhaff handled kickoff duties in each of those contests and field goal/PAT chores in 39 clashes. He connected on 50-of-65 field goals (76.92%) and 145-of-148 extra-point attempts (97.97%) for 295 points, the second-highest total on the school's career scoring list.

Hell they can just bring Medlock back. He's not long for the Rams since they signed Josh Brown. LMAO

OR, sign Nick Lowry

When the Chiefs lost to the Colts in the 95' playoff game, somewhere, Nick was laughing....

Another fine move by CP

Nick missed a pretty big kick against Miami in '86(?).

How the hell are you?

Couldn't tell you without searching net. I did not start watching the Chief's till 1990. Still, I think Nick would have punched 1 of the 3 attempts the Chief's gave him in 95' though....

I'm doing good.

You're probably right.

But the Chiefs through the years, all the way back to Stenerud, have lost games because a kicker wasn't able to make kicks.

Stenerud and Lowery are two of the best, and they still missed big kicks.

Granted, Lowery's wasn't a chip shot (49 yarder) but he had the leg for it, and made long ones pretty consistently, until a playoff game came along.

I think you are right about kickers choking in big games...Hmmm. Any other Chief choked in a big game??

It just seems that kickers need to mature a little and settle their minds before they're ready to be a clutch kicker in the NFL. A good number of them seem to bounce around a few years before they figure everything out and there are always so many out there every offseason. I'm not against drafting another kicker but would much rather see a big competition unlike handing the job to a rookie like we did w/ Medcock last season.
