Tiger's won 4 green jackets, will this year be 5?
Davis Love will sit out his 1st major since 1990.
Arnie will hit the first tee shot for the second year @ 8:15 ET on Thursday.

I'll be parked in front of my TV Saturday and Sunday.
This is the first time I would actually take Tiger over the field.

I'm fully expecting Tiger to win, but Geoff Ogilvy and Adam Scott could make a run. They've both been playing really well as of late.

Gotta a chance to walk the course during the practice rounds a long time ago and as a country boy growing up on a farm I was amazed as to how well that place was groomed. I got down in the bottom of the ditches and there was rake marks where some poor bastard had to go down there and "make it purty".

Especially this year.

My 77 year old FIL, 3 months post-bypass (his 3rd in 25 years) and a pacemaker installation is down there with my BIL.

Plus, if you have DTV, they have a dedicated Masters channel this year, where you can watch 4 different areas of the course, including a dedicated Amen Corner cam.

I don't think Scott has a chance in hell, OTW. He's not a very good putter. And Ogilvy, despite winning recently, really strikes me as more of a U.S. Open guy than a Masters guy.

The best thing about Augusta is that the cream almost always rises to the top, because it's easier to make pars than it is to make birdies (which is both the boon and curse of the Open).

I read that the LD F (all the LD's) have a draw bias. I hit my driver fairly straight. Did or do you have any issues with the draw bias?

I am still using the Cobra Composite 414....I like the smaller club head size. shaft is 45g.....but stiff.

Pretty consistent with it......265 yards

My Cobra irons are a few years old. When I wear them out, I will buy more Cobras. Everything in the bag is Cobra except the putter(Ping)

I can't speak for the driver, as I play a Titleist.

But I do carry a Cobra LD F 3-wood, and I've yet to see anything that suggests a draw bias.

The Pro is neutral to open, yes it has a small draw bias. And I hit a draw, but the way it sets up it doesn't bother me. It is a VERY long club. I was hitting Titleist 905, this thing blows it away. I had the Diamanta X-Stiff shaft put in it. I think I am going to change shafts, launching a bit high, but the accuracy is awesome. This is the first Cobra I have bought, have not been disappointed.

He's lost a lot of weight, and it's really stabilized his swing. You can tell that his base is a lot stronger from the gym work (and work with Harmon) and he's not nearly as loose in his legs, which really helps his driving (which was excellent for the most part today, save for his teeball on 15).

G-10 probably would have been my other choice this year, I liked it a lot also. The R7s are a real good club too. Just depends on what look you like. I have never liked Taylor Made, the way it looks when setting up. I have a friend that is playing the SuperQuad R7, he loves it, he plays for MU. The best thing you could do is get fitted, the shaft is probably just as important as anything else when buying a driver anymore

I've REALLY come to realize that. I am planning on getting fitted, and like I said I need a stiff flex shaft cause of my swing speed. with the r7 I'm between the 425 and 460, my friend loves the 460, but its just so massive of a club head I don't know if I'll like it. I have hit the Titleist 907 D and liked it too

Do you think the moveable weights hold any merit or are they just a fad?

Sorry so many questions but its tough for me to find anyone that knows sh*t about golf around me.

smittysbar
04-11-2008, 07:35 AM
Movable weighting works. It is the same as if you were to use lead tape. As long as you get a good shaft, it won't have much twist, so the larger head won't hurt anything. When buying new I would just get the 460. The Titleist D1 and D2's were a pretty big flop, and that's hard for me to say, I am a huge Titleist fan. If you look at the tour, most have the D2 head cover but are still hitting the 905, that says all you need to know about those. But mark my word Titleist will be coming out with something good next year, it is a great company and won't allow itself to be passed by.

PhillyChiefFan
04-11-2008, 07:51 AM
I'll probably end up getting the 460. I'm going to use my buddy's tomorrow when we play to see if I like it, and he said that we can mess with the weights.

I need to upgrade my clubs too and I'm probably going with either Cobra s9's or Callaway X-18 (maybe 20's if I talk myself into using some of my tax incentive)

Stay away from the big chains, Golf Galaxy, Nevada Bob's, Edwin Watts. Go to a PGA pro around your area who has a good rep, and hit balls in a live environment. Don't use a launch monitor for anything other than a second opinion, and if he wants you to hit into a net, tell him to f*ck off. Make sure he uses impact tape to judge your lie angle properly.

Happens every year @ Augusta. At least one person will make an 8 or a 9 at 15 because they rinse the first, and then get tentative on the second, and you can't play that hole with your butthole puckered.

It's his own damn fault for not waiting for Applebee to mark. Announcer said it best, for someone who thinks everything through so meticulously, Tiger made huge mental error. Still got the par there.

I'm not a Tiger guy, but you will almost never see pros wait for their partners to mark when they are 80+ yards from the green. That was a really bad "rub of the green".

Do some research on your own to find a list of shafts that may suit you.

Mickelson laid up on 8 to hit a wedge in, hit a great shot, which hit the pin (and was very unlucky), causing it to spin back 25 feet. He was so pissed he ran his first putt four feet by and then blew the downhiller for par.

There's no need to compound an unlucky break with stupidity, but that's what has always separated Phil from Tiger.

A lot better now that the forecast is calling for 30 MPH winds this afternoon.

If it's truly that windy, I fully expect Tiger and Flesch to make a run. Both handle heavy wind very well.

You have to remember that the tournament organizers aren't the sadists at the USGA. The people @ Augusta realize that when people like Zach Johnson win a battle of attrition at +1, it doesn't help bring in the casual fan. They made the course set up more forgiving this year so that -6 to -10 would be the winning score.

If the wind is really howling, expect some of the Sunday pins to be moved from their normal locations.

And Justin Rose shoots a 78 in perfect conditions every year @ The Masters.

Can't argue with that, but even with easier placements, those greens are a bitch. Nearly impossible to hit a 2 yard window when the wind is blowing that hard. Even with easy placements, if you miss your window, you'll be lucky to two-putt.

But there are places on those greens that have larger windows. 12 will be a degenerate whore today, and 16 won't be much better, but I imagine they'll put 11 as a center or center-right pin.

I would imagine you'll have an average round of around 75 today. Tiger will have to shoot at least 69 to win, even with these winds.

Nah, no problem. he is a good golfer though, but he never had a chance, I think he was +2 on Friday.

Yeah, my boy Ogilvy shot a ridiculously high number today as well.

And my other pick, Adam Scott was hampered by some illness - guess maybe a flu bug. I never heard exactly what was up with him.

You make the picks on wed, so you don't even know who makes the cut yet.

It's not that easy when you're picking higher than 10th. most of the big names have already been taken. we draw numbers out of a hat, and then you pick your golfer when your number comes up.

Yeah...

Again, draw up a list of 20 guys who are good putters and hit a high draw. You'll have a much better shot.

I have two friends that are PGA pros. I was going by their recommendations. I should have told them that Hamas Jenkins from Chiefsplanet says you don't know what you're talking about. my bad. :)

It doesn't take a lot of common sense to know what works at Augusta. And trust me, there are a lot of pros out there that are absolute dumbasses.

About 4:00 today, I picked Immelman ;)

For the record, never pick Sergio (bad putter), Toms (overrated), or Furyk (grinders don't do well there historically).

Never pick a guy who uses a belly putter.
Never pick a guy who isn't at least in the top 1/4 of driving distance (this won't work 1/5 years).
Don't pick a righty who hits a cut unless he is looooong off the tee.
Don't pick a guy over 40 (Jack Nicklaus was 20+ years ago).

If you draw a bad number next year, look at Andres Romero, Angel Cabrera, or Paul Casey, but if you want a real dark horse...

We do these pools for every major tournament, so I'll let you pick for me when the next one comes up. it's only 10 bucks with the chance to win $400, and I have never won the pool before. so I'll let you pick for me and I'll pay you in casino cash if we win. how's that?
