am i the only one whe hates the unbalanced schedules these days??

I miss the old days when you would play every team the same amount. Its almost too many games with division rivals.

Well he did it to himself with the walk. All in all good poise cause no one is going to hold a .065 ERA for long but still. Make the guy swing the bat. Especially the lead off guy. That is what killed us last year and we have done so much better with that this year so far.

I totally agree. But it's also nice to see that Zack got out of the mess that he created himself into. The younger Zack would more than likely come apart.

Last Play: J. Lopez flied into double play center to third to first, I. Suzuki out at first

Lopez hit a ball right at center. At first, it looked like DeJesus wouldn't get it, but somehow caught it (easy run down actually) and Ichiro assumed that DeJesus wouldn't get it, or it was a failed hit-and-run where Ichiro was running towards third when DeJesus caught it.

Amazing game.. two nights in a row..

Man I would be so stoked if this kept up all year.. Been to 3 games this year, and seen another 5-6 on TV, great for me so far..

Still remember the 85 series even though I was only 7...

Zack is such good pitcher... And he's only 24.

Why did the Royals sign him to a 1 yr deal? I can't believe his salary is $1.4 million.

I read his bio after he pitched 8 scoreless innings against the Yankees -- I'm glad he's doing well.

He needs to win 20 games and he'll find himself smack in the middle of a bidding war.

Royals are letting pitch 9 innings?

If i'm not mistaken he was only slightly over 100 pitches.. He had a couple innings with single digit pitches.

I like this Hillman's style. He makes sensible lineup changes when he does tweak the lineup. Like Olivo as DH, Butler at 1st. Bell was as bad as Boone when it came to constantly ****ing with the starting lineup.

Speaking of Zach reaching 95 mph in the 9th, here's a story going the opposite direction. This is why I love baseball so much......

Fascinating accounts, stories, and even myths about how fast - or not so fast - a pitch has gone are common in the annals of the game. One such account allegedly took place during a Spring Training game in 1968. A rookie catcher named Johnny Bench was behind the plate and eight-year veteran Jim Maloney was on the mound. Bench continuously called for breaking balls and Maloney continuously shook him off. Frustrated, the two met at the mound where Bench bluntly said, "Your fastball's not popping." Maloney, also blunt, replied, "%*$@ you." The rookie returned to his position behind the plate and called for a curve, only to be shaken off again. Bench gave in to the veteran (who had recently strung together four consecutive seasons with 200+ strikeouts) and signaled for a fastball. Maloney delivered. Before the pitch reached the plate Bench dropped his glove and caught the ball bare-handed - or so the story goes.ROFL

To put things in perspective...

Last year, in 162 games, the Royals starting pitchers has tossed only two complete games.

This year, in only 13 games, the Royals starting pitches already has tossed two complete games.

The man puts off a winning vibe. He has won everywhere he ahs been, he expects to win and he expects his players to expect to win every game.

Gobble said it best the other night when he said "this year I feel like we are playing for now and not next year or the year after that..."

Tht attitude started the day Moore walked through the door. It is amazing what a few wins in April can do to point out how bad the previous guy was. Although I supported Bell until about 2 months in last year then I got fed up.

In our 8 wins thus far, we are averaging about 4.4 runs and giving up ONLY 0.8 runs per game. Amazing. In our 5 losses, we are averaging 1.6 runs and giving up 4.6 runs per game.

The point? We don't have to score a lot to be in most of these games. We just need to be efficient and effective on the base paths and opportunistic as possible at the plate (move base runners, swing at good pitches, take advtg of RISP with 1 out, etc.). Our discipline on the field (along with great pitching) has allowed us to be a player in the month of April, instead of talking about next season 13 games into the year.

I REALLY like what Hillman has done thus far. It's early, but he's certainly shown what he is capable of as a Manager.

It is excellent to watch and that is the way the Royals will win. By pitching, good defense and timely hitting. They wont overpower anyone but i think that will eventually happen with Gordon and Butler on O. I love the quiet confidence that Hillman has and the team feels it.

That's like someone not hearing of Felix Hernandez until he made a start against their team. Zack was the number 1 pitching prospect in the minors before he was called up in 2004; the vast majority of baseball fans that even casually follow the minor leagues knew about Zack for a long time.

There was some stuff said by Lefebre(sp?) saying that Greinke tried to model his MLB to Maddox and Glavine and niblle and not use his "stuff". Saying how Riske helped change him last year and tell him to use that 95 mph fastball and stop ****ing around

First game I've been to and saw the Royals win in person in forever. Grienke looked amazing and Teahen's catch wasn't too shabby either. In fact the game went so well that I even heard a faint "Lets go Royals" chant. Of course some of that had to do with the fact nobody was there tonight. Too damn cold for baseball.
