View Full Version : Marty v. Herm. Who do you take?

Hey, a new guy named "cutler7624" wants to know if the members here think that Marty or Norv is a better head coach. He's too new to start a thread (or he can't find the right button. Who knows?) He asked for help starting the thread, so I thought I'd do it.

I'm firmly in the Marty camp. Anyone else want to chime in?

His request:

Wheres the norv option? how many posts do you have to have to actually start a new thread anyways.

Before last year I would've said Martyocre. Which isn't saying much, because Norv before 2007 hadn't shown anything as a head coach, and I call Schottenheimer Martyocre for a reason.

marty ...... he may not be a guy to win the super bowl but he was pretty darn good at maintaining a legit playoff team.

he also seems to have learn to stay away from the offense.

Most confusing poll...ever. Are we comparing Marty to Herm, or Marty to Norv? :spock:

It's a complicated formula, but it's around 30 I believe.

The new default number for thread starting should always be one more post than what ClevelandBronoco has.

WTF is with this poll? Is it Herm v Norm or Herm v Marty and when did Marv get involved? :doh!:

Considering the sample size it's a little unfair to Herm. That said, I'd go Marty.

Marty as coach and motivater(loved Raiders week) and Herm helping with the drafts..

You take Marty if you are rebuilding a franchise.

Norv if the places are already in place for a playoff run.

Marty had so much more talent on his teams in KC, it's not really a fair comparison.

I think it would be wisest to hire head coaches, offensive and defensive coordinator with philosophies that complimented one another so they can challenge the current problems instead of hiring coaches they like to play golf with on Saturdays and feel warm and cozy with.

You know that whole the team hasn't won a playoff game in 14 years and were embarrassed on national television when they did get a chance to compete with elite teams in the post-season then we bitch about how the NFL ignores the Chiefs and why they don't get prime time games.

It's because their a joke.

The Chiefs are like a 25 year old who just graduated college and keeps going back to the frat house on weekends to try and hang on to the glory days of yesteryear.

That would be fine if it was for a year or maybe even two but Carl's the 30 year old guy hanging out wondering why he can't score with college chicks anymore.

This post is reflective of the big issue. It's been time to let go and move on for a long time.

Dear GOD, why? What a waste!

This poll is retarded...

Its like asking a death row inmate, "so boy, do you want to die by the Chair or by lethal injection... Either way your screwed"....

Where is the neither option? Both suck ass and neither will ever win a superbowl..

How about, lets clean how and leave the 1990's in the past....

Cool!

We'll draft average players and get bounced out of the playoffs in the first round every year!

Sounds like a plan.

As a matter of fact, that sounds exactly like Carl's 5 year plan.

The reason for this is, I firmly believe that Herm is a better judge of talent then Marty, but Herm doesnt use his players to there full potential, Marty is the better coach clearly, no question about it.

So herm drafts the talent and Marty coaches the team.

Well.....duh...

In the end, you'd still have a team that gets bounced out of the playoffs.

That's what Marty coached teams do.

And the fact is, Herman ****ing Edwards has done a fair job of drafting, but he hasn't yet drafted a playmaker.

Bowe might end up being one, but to this point, all Herman ****ing Edwards has really done is draft average players.

Herm is Herm, point blank he sucks as a head coach, great recruiter, but a terrible head coach, I wouldnt be a bit surprised if we lost all of our games this year, not going to happen, we'll win one or two, but we aint going anywhere with him as head coach.

Should've just given the job to Al Saunders instead of this loser.

BigChiefFan

Marty is a good game day planner, who excels on the defensive side of the ball, but also recognizes the importance of building a great O-line. He's as good as they come on gameday-you won't see him mismanage the clock, etc..Marty is too conservative or at least he was when he was with the Chiefs.

Herm is decent talent evaluator, but is a disaster on game day. He seems like a highly principled man, but his coaching skills leave something to be desired.

Norv is a decent coach, who makes some blunders from time to time, but he is an INCREDIBLE X's and O's guy. Norv seems a little timid to motivate his players, but I think he's a good coach.

I would say Norv and Marty are two different ends of the spectrum-one is a conservative D minded coach and the other is an Offensive coach. Apples and oranges.

I think I would hire Marty over Norv because I believe Marty has a track-record of establishing better teams. Norv is probably easier to work with from a GM's standpoint. Norv doesn't have enough experience to give him the nod. Marty wins out on resume' alone.

ROFL

You're kidding right?

No it was/is time to clean house and start fresh, give the Chiefs fans a reason to spend $$$, give them something other than the coveted 9-7 season that Carl hangs his "HOPE" hat on and the lemmings dream of...

Just say "NO" to mediocre, Carl, Herm, anything Marty and the 1990's...

Time to move forward Chiefs fans... The 1990's were great, but this is 2008 and its 10 years past new life time....
