Your Preference for the Search Function

Enough people have been complaining about it that I figured this should be put to a poll.

Back story:
The search index for the board got corrupted when we switched over from the old board. As a result, using the search feature causes the entire board to lock up while the search is running - typically for a minute or two each time someone searches for something.

It's fixable, but the last time morphius tried to fix it, it only made things worse. I certainly don't know enough about it as he does, so that pretty much means we've got to wait on Kyle to get around to looking at it. Chances are, when the reindex is finally started, the board will be down for a day or two.

So...

In the meantime, would you rather have access to the search feature and live with intermittent periods when the board doesn't respond for a minute or two, or would you rather leave the search feature turned off and have a board that consistently responds quickly?

I had no idea that was slowing things down. But it's on other BB's with no slow down. I don't understand why here. I do know the board has timed out on me routinely if I write a post longer than 3 sentences or take too much time writing it. My log in is out every time I came back on too. So those are a drag too. I'd rather ditch the arcade. But that's just me. If it's temporarily disabled I can hang on. It's not like I use it every day. Just tell patteeu to stop asking me for old posts.

I know the info is in a few threads that have disappeared off the front page and ironic as it is you can't search to find them.

I just added the google search feature to the top navigation bar next to the wallpaper link.

Why don;t you jut put in the google site search. It won't pick up just added stuff but it is better than nothing.

Will the web server stay up during this time? If so, would it be possible to put a link to the "downtime planet" I put up a while back so that people can find their way if need be?
