Lets see if i can help Meche get back on track tonight!!

CoMoChief
04-16-2008, 08:13 PM
Meche has been pitching like shit.

Coach
04-16-2008, 08:19 PM
1-0 Royals. Should had been 2-0, but Gathright got picked off at 1st.

Coach
04-16-2008, 08:26 PM
2-0 now.

Coach
04-16-2008, 08:27 PM
That's the end of the top of the inning. Weaver has tossed 30+ pitches already.

Kraus
04-16-2008, 08:29 PM
Well, Meche is getting some run support. Time for him to do his part.

Coach
04-16-2008, 08:35 PM
Wow. Great effort/hustle by Olivo to get that ball and force a double play.

Inning over.

Adept Havelock
04-16-2008, 08:44 PM
Damn, looks like Gathright hurt his leg. Hopefully, nothing serious.

Coach
04-16-2008, 08:45 PM
And I hate Weaver. F**ker always want to throw pickoff attempts that it actually makes the game drag out even longer.

SPchief
04-16-2008, 08:46 PM
NICE

Coach
04-16-2008, 08:46 PM
3-0 now as Weaver can't catch the ball from the first baseman to get Grudz out.

Runners on 1st, 2 outs.

Adept Havelock
04-16-2008, 08:46 PM
LMAO

3-0

SPchief
04-16-2008, 08:47 PM
Even if he catches it, I think Grudz would have beat him.

Coach
04-16-2008, 08:47 PM
PITCH, BITCH! Grudz isn't going anywhere. He ain't Joey Gathright.

Adept Havelock
04-16-2008, 08:49 PM
49 pitches in the second. How long can Weaver go? Heh...

Deberg_1990
04-16-2008, 08:50 PM
OK..Meche BETTER win tonight. Hes been spotted 3 runs

Kraus
04-16-2008, 08:50 PM
This is great. Weaver is f***ed.

Coach
04-16-2008, 08:51 PM
And that is a flyout. Mid 2nd. 3-0, Good guys.

Fish
04-16-2008, 08:51 PM
I'm waiting for Weaver's arm to fall off and wobble through the air like a bat slipping out of someone's hand....

SithCeNtZ
04-16-2008, 08:54 PM
The big downside to this team is that offensively when we hit a mistake pitch it is always a single. 7 hits in 2 innings and we only have 3 runs. That isn't very efficient.

Yeah, a tough one. It wasn't a bad pitch by Meche, just sometimes the pitcher wins, and sometimes the batter wins.

Looks like the batter won this time.

petegz28
04-16-2008, 10:13 PM
It's not smart to walk maybe good hitters?

Not when it is the tying or go-ahead run. You have 7 guys behind you and the lead. DONT ****ING WALK ANYONE!

Coach
04-16-2008, 10:15 PM
It's not smart to walk maybe good hitters?

As Sure-Oz mentioned, it depends on the situation. If there is nobody on, and 1 out, in the 7th, and roided up Barry Bonds in his prime, and my team is up by one, I'd IBB him.

Demonpenz
04-16-2008, 10:15 PM
the walks are alright. you can't throw the ball down the middle or it will end up in the stands

petegz28
04-16-2008, 10:16 PM
As Sure-Oz mentioned, it depends on the situation. If there is nobody on, and 1 out, in the 7th, and roided up Barry Bonds in his prime, and my team is up by one, I'd IBB him.

I would never intentionally put the tying or lead run on base. You are swinging the bat and may the best man win.

Coach
04-16-2008, 10:18 PM
Come on Billy, bust this loose!

Adept Havelock

Coach
04-16-2008, 10:19 PM
I would never intentionally put the tying or lead run on base. You are swinging the bat and may the best man win.

Again, it really depends on the situation. Sometimes you have to take the chance of walking him. I wouldn't want to take the chance of Bonds getting a double or a solo home run.

It's a double edged sword.

I always liked sliding headfirst because you can manouver your arms easier if you need to avoid a tag, but you can stand up and run to the next base on an errant throw feet first. I like when guys go in feet first when i was tagging because it gave me a bigger target to tag. This is just some of my opinions

petegz28

A foot first slid requires the complete reversal of your body while trying to maintain momentum. You are alreay leaning forward so if you are going to slide just stick your arms out and dive. It's my opinion. It is wht I did and I ws a Gathright type player. All speed little power.

What's counted as an error?

An error is the act, in the judgment of the official scorer, of a fielder misplaying a ball in a manner that allows a batter or baserunner to reach one or more additional bases, when such an advance should have been prevented given ordinary effort by the fielder. It is also an error when a fielder muffs a foul fly to prolong the time at bat of a batter, whether the batter subsequently reaches first base or is put out.

I believe your probably right, but many studies have shown that if there is a difference, it is very slight. IMO, unless its the playoffs where there is no tomorrow, I'd prefer players to slide feet-first to avoid injury.

Presuming the Royals dont score, you work at a sportsbook, and you have to set a quick proposition wager on Soria blowing this save, what odds do you offer?

With as much movement as he can get he should have no quams with letting guys hit early in the count. That is how Bannister and Grienke go for 9 innings.

Soria probably needs to be tried out as a starter someday, but I'm in no hurry. The rotation doesnt appear to be the complete disaster some were dreading, and we have a couple waiting to come in from the minors.

If the Royals just completely collapse into 4th-5th place at the break with rotation injuries and failures galore, then we can always find out if he can start later when it doesnt matter. Right now, the need isnt really there.

I have no idea what his deal is so far, he was pretty solid last year. This team can win these close games as long as he doesn't walk half the lineup.

I was for moving Soria into the rotation. But as good as he's pitching right now, I don't know. If Hochevar comes up and pitches well, and I actually think he's gonna be a good pitcher... we might just be better off leaving things as they are. Having a front four like Meche/Bannister/Greinke/Hochevar with Nunez/Soria slamming the door is how you eventually win playoff series.

At the moment we have the luxery of not caring about whether he can start because we seem to have plenty of guys who can. If the rotation goes completely to hell and stops giving us a lead to save, we'll then have to fully evaluate his abilities to see what he can and cant do, but that time is not now.

I'm not too thrilled with our #4 - Bale. I just don't think he's worth throwing out there every 5 days. Hopefully, Hochevar is ready to go sometime in May and we can place Bale in Pen and jettison Nomo (who is just friggen horrible). Better yet, I'd like to see Bale packing as well, and bring up Neal Musser. It would be nice to have another lefty in the pen.

Nice to finally see a quality start out of Meche.

We've now won more games in April than we did last year. Or the year before, or any other year going back to 2003 (that's when they started the season/month 9-0, finishing 17-7, and then went 10-19 in May).

I think the way he was walking batters was on purpose that is a tough lineup. Better to give up a walk than the longball.

Yeah, but aren't we bringing Hochevar after he gets a couple of warmup starts down in Omaha? Pretty sure they said they expected him to come up fairly soon and take over 1 of the spots in the rotation.

May be seeing Hochevar as early as THIS Sunday:

Seeking alternatives

Left-hander John Bale will be monitored closely over the next few days after professing to a “dead arm” following his rough outing Tuesday in Seattle.

“He’s just tired,” pitching coach Bob McClure said. “Most pitchers get it at some point in the season. It just feels like the ball isn’t coming out of your hand right. It usually goes away.

“There is some concern there that it happened this early. We need to keep an eye on it.”

Bale is a converted reliever who won a spot in the rotation by posting a strong spring. But he is 0-3 and has allowed 13 runs and 25 hits in 15 1/3 innings.

The obvious replacement candidate is Luke Hochevar, who pitched six shutout innings Tuesday for Omaha in a 4-1 victory at Nashville. He could slide into Bale’s spot and pitch Sunday on his usual rest.
